My Dyno results

I have a larger intercooler and Renntech tune.
Recently I had to replace the injectors and the dealer probably erased part of the tune.

Nice man, I pulled about 289~295 whp with my ecotune on a mustang dyno.
No other mods.

Do you have the run file with rpm so that we can see the torque numbers?

They tried to get an "optical read" in order to calculate the torque, but that failed.
The guy placed tape on one of the belts and used an optical tool to register the RPM. the tape just flew off the belt. No RPM, no torque.

No, just the two print outs. No torque, no RPM.

Apparently the top speed is limited again.
I emailed the file to Renntech, I will probably mail in the ECU soon.

They should be able to get an rpm reading by logging a couple rpm points into the computer at different speeds in the gear you dyno in. Shops probably aren't familiar with doing that unless they do a lot of diesels. I know I wouldn't have any idea how, but I don't own a dyno shop either.

They work mainly on gassers and a few diesel trucks.
For the trucks they use a magnetic thingy attached to one of the pulleys and an optical tool to register the number of engine revs.

One of the guys there was looking for the engine coils right after I told him it is a diesel car, and tried to pull the engine cover off after only detaching the engine oil cap. I stopped him.
He is the one who placed the tape on the belt for the rpm readout.

That's kind of what the diesel shop I've been to does. His Superflow dyno software allowed him to put in the tire size/gear ratio's of the diff and transmission and then we were able to verify the speed on the rollers with the calculated rpm vs the rpm in the car. His software then could calculate the torque curve from the power curve. He also had that optical method mentioned.

Should be totally unnecessary if they know the system but if you need to be certain the rpm is exact the wire is good. By "the system" I mean the dyno, not the car

Do you have to tap into one of those wires?

I assume its reading the pulses from either the cam position or crank position sensor, just like they would do for the coil wire on a gas car. No need to tap the wire. Its basically just an ammeter setup.

The guy said the power loss at the wheel is about 20%. I think that's excessive. What would be the average power loss?

Could be accurate. The guestimate for auto trannys in the past was 25-30% depending on the trans. The new ones are much better, 20% is a lot better than 25%. I don't know that there are hard numbers you could find, everything I've ever seen is "my buddy has a friend who heard about a guy who said..." kind of stuff.

That would mean 370 at the crank. Is that too optimistic?

I made 294 whp/ 393 wtq
JBD @ 65-70% with a mustang dyno.
I just can't find my sheet nowhere
Now I'm running 100% but I always have to let it warm up before nailing it!

It's about 20% loss and the automatic has little to do with it.. You get about 18% loss when the direction of the rotation changes in the differential..
