VAG convert

So after a few tdi's, mkii projects and an s4 I'm hoping to have found the best of both worlds. Picked up a 2011 sport package CPO. Amazing car!! Hoping the carbon buildup stays away.

One question...WTF belongs here? Something for a gasser I assume. Do you guys have a blockoff shield of some sort? Not sure how I didn't notice this when I popped the hood.

I'm in Michigan in the greater Detroit area also. Watch the potholes with your new 335d sport with the 18" tire/rim combo! Some of our roads are awfully deteriorated with this harsh winter!

Our roads are brutal!! I live in Royal Oak. Can you recommend a good dealer in town? I'll do routine maintenance myself but if I need to take advantage of the cpo any advice is appreciated.

I haven't yet used any of the BMW dealers for service, I'm still shopping for a 335d. I'll be buying soon (soon to be a VAG to BMW convert too!). I have visited BMW of Ann Arbor and Yark BMW of Toledo, Ohio for test drives. I was impressed with both dealerships. I have heard good things about Grand Blanc BMW from a fellow Michigan gentleman who is also a member of this forum and has had his 335d serviced there.

According to the BMW USA website, the three closest dealerships to you are:

1. Erhard BMW of Bloomfield Hills - http://www.erhardbmw.com/

2. BMW of Rochester Hills - http://www.bmwofrochesterhills.com/

3. Erhard BMW of Farmington Hills - http://www.erhardbmwoffarmingtonhills.com/

There also might be some internet info out there on how these dealerships rate in terms of customer care, service, etc. Best wishes with your 335d!

I've done some poking around and found some great info on our 335d's. Since I feel like I'm late to the party and would like to contribute something I made a post on our stereos.

If someone would like me to do any testing for them lmk. I'm pretty good with physics and sound.

Nice! You'll love it. Space grey was my first choice when shopping for my car, but it was so hard to find a low mileage example with the sport package that I went with alpine white. The white has reallllly grown on me, but there's always going to be a soft spot in my heart for the space grey. Enjoy!

So what do you think of your new ride compared to your previous S4?

The S4 was a b5 stage 1 that had an altercation with a deer on an early morning in Ohio. Other than fuel economy is was awesome. Way ahead of it's time for a 00'. Brakes are comparable, 335 is probably quicker in acceleration. 335 has more bells and whistles but I didn't mind the simplicity of a 00'. What I do notice is handling. The s4 would turn in quicker and seemed to have more over steer but I could never get the back end to truly come around. The 335 is pretty neutral, seems like it wants to under steer but the entire car drifts when pushed as apposed to the front tires washing away. The b5 would just dig in and inspire more confidence. I wonder how much of it has to do with the quattro vs wwd? In the snow the b5 wins hands down. It was a beast...especially with the Nokians. The S4 was sportier but the 335 is a complete package. When the time comes I'm not looking forward to moving on from the D.

I had to laugh at this... I had the exact same reaction when I got home with my 335d. I almost wondered if the dealer removed something from my car after delivery since I didn't remember noticing it when I test drove it.

Sorry, I wish I knew of some plugs that you could put in there. However, I haven't noticed an increase in dust or dirt from the holes. Perhaps you won't either?

So it's obvious parts of the car have recently been resprayed. The bumper and hood for sure. Had to of been sprayed just before I got it. The test drives it saw over a few months didn't make a chip. I'm thinking it was done by a shoddy shop or the guy doing prep/mixing missed a step.

Either way the dealer says they'd give me a loaner and fix the paint for free. Wonder if they'll do it right by spraying the bumper, hood (is following suit), and blend the 1/4 panels....

Car also has a small oil leak, most likely the turbo oil feed line. If they try to get $50 out of me for something that was obviously not working properly when I drove the car off the lot I won't be happy.

Like I said earlier CPO car, clean car fax.

Apparently the dealer had the bumper sprayed before I bought it to fix some 'scratches' and the booth was too cold for it to cure properly. They will fix the bumper for free. When prodded they said the hood was resprayed too and they will fix it for free also. There is rust on the passenger side 1/4 panel. Not sure if they will fix it or not. Looks like they tried to touch it up and call it good. That paint is deteriorating also. I'm going to push for them to do it properly by feathering both 1/4 panels to make it look right.

Car went in for an oil feed line leak, vibration at highway speeds and paint. Looks like the paint is a few weeks out...thought that would have been scheduled ahead of time. They will cover the deductible on the oil feed line which is a nice gesture. I'm sure it was leaking when I bought it though. A Bosch buddy came over to check it out 2 days after it came home and we noticed the feed line when we took the engine cover off. Vibration at highway speeds is probably due to a sidewall bubble on the passenger side. I hadn't noticed it and don't recall any potholes in my driving. I'll order one from Tire Rack or ditch the run flats all together. We'll see what else pops up.

I'm not trying to badmouth anyone, just want to post what is happening. The 328d loaner is a pig but clocked over 50mpg on a highway trip today. Not quick but for a heavy car that is comfortable to drive it gets amazing fuel economy. Another 50 ponies under the hood and I'd buy one. Hmmm...maybe just a few mods away.

Is this the kind of problems CPO cars usually have or am I alone here?

The oil feed line is a common issue. The other things seem to me that the dealer tried to hide in hopes nobody would pick up on them. As for the handling, I totally transformed mine by putting coils on it and swapping out the entire suspension bits. Turn in is amazing now especially after the Vorshlag camber plates and M3 strut brace kit.

Thanks for the response. My complaint is that with a cpo car it should have been taken care of before I bought it. Hard to believe it was overlooked and makes me question what else was overlooked.

My first 'suspension' mod will be to get rid of these run flats. Honestly I don't need the fastest or best handling car but I'm glad people are taking their D's there. Pss9's and some camber plates would be awesome but I'm not going to go there...yet...

Going to visit the Greek family in Chicago this weekend. Looking forward to putting some miles on their 328d.
