Anyone taken delivery of a 2 series w/ HK? I'm already aware about the downgrade from 16-12 speakers and getting a smaller, 360W amplifier... I'm curious about the equalizer and how much adjustment it allows the user. The M235i at my center got sold before I was able to play with the sound system.

Issues like this are why I don't ever buy a car the first year it comes out. Let other people find the bugs and flaws and lets BMW sort them out, I don't want to be their guinea pig.

For $870 it should have the EQ controls and be more than just a few HK badges on the speakers... And apparently they misled buyers as to what the specs were. I guess it was just a mistake, or that's what they are saying. I think 235 buyers that bought the HK stereo have a right to some compensation for false advertising.

Where have you been? Are you only now finding this out?

Yeah it kinda sucks but to me it still sounds pretty good. It all depends on what you are used to.

If you like bass you'll want to add a sub to the HK system.

The HK system is fantastic - I don't understand all the kvetching. It's definitely a really nice system and a huge upgrade compared to the stock system.

Good to hear at least one positive review. The no EQ thing is killing me though. How did they drop the ball on that.

I also think it's perfectly fine at least with the rebate feel the price is fair. It's definitely an upgrade over stock and honestly most of the time I've got the windows cracked or roof open anyway so anything better (more $) would be a complete waste on me. Don't get me wrong I enjoy my music and have a legit listening room at home, but for the car it's more than fine.

HK is okay and needs help.

I came form a BMW with enhanced sound ($1,950) option which was far better than the HK system. Better bass and more volume. With the 235i windows down I have to turn up the volume nearly to the right to get a good sound. Also, bass non-existent so I added this:

Will soon replace amp and speakers....

IMHO, if the base system is easily upgradeable, then pass on HK and just upgrade from stock.

Does anybody have a link to a proper test with measurement of the HK as put into the 2-series compared to what is in the 4-series?

Just because there are less speakers and no EQ doesn't mean it is bad. A low number of good speaker and a good amp can very well. However, so far I have only read from people who compared the 2-series HK based on specs or who said it is hopeless anyway (which I kind of agree to).

To clarify one more time, I'm looking for a review (one involving listening) of HK in 2-series against HK in 4-series or 5-series, not against the base stereo.

The base as sold in the US 4-series (which is the medium option Germany) is absolutely terrible, BTW, nobody should feel bad about getting the 2-series HK for a minute.
