It's called an ENET cable and it works with a software tool called E-SYS. Notice that it uses an ethernet cable to connect to your computer instead of USB which the old cable (pre F-series) used. The F-series cars use a completely different cable than the previous models so be careful when buying a cable.
Here is a example from ebay. They seem to start from $20 and they go up from there. you can also build them yourself if you like DIY. There is a lot of info on them on the 3/4 series forums. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-F-Series...c4290a&vxp=mtr Here's a link to the F30 coding forums: http://www.f30post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=429 Last edited by Bimmer4John; 03-23-2014 at 12:05 PM.. I have done a quick search in the past and I didn't really find anything so its not abundantly available online. But there is a forum member that can direct you where to find it. His ID is @shawnsheridan
While the software can be downloaded for free, it does look like you will need to pay for a license for it to get it to fully function. Quote:
That's definitely an interesting idea. Let us know if you try it and it works. |

Awesome! Keep me posted guys, I plan on coding as soon as I get my car, which may not be for a while.
So E-Sys is the software. Here's the cable for $18 http://www.ecutool.com/BMW-ENET-Ethe...ies_11119.html Here's the coding made easy thread- http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=715297 On a completely unrelated note. You know that piratebay is still going. Last edited by absoluteis350; 03-26-2014 at 11:27 AM.. |

Great! I just found this and now I have an other thing to worry about. If those cables find their way to my house, there will be hell to pay. I'm already looking for places to hide the keys, I really didn't need to worry about the spouse messing with the car.

and why wouldn't you want him to code his car? You can turn on so many useful functions
and the answer is no ... i don't want your money ...I'm not really doing this to turn a profit ... I do it to help the forum members with coding ... hence the link to the software and free remote coding. there are some forum members that will charge anywhere from $60 to $150 to code your car! It is really simple to do, some just need a little help to do it/learn the software for the first time, and then they are golden! |

If the RJ45 outlet in your garage goes to a network switch inside the home, you could theoretically disconnect from the switch, and plug into your PC to code from a distance, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to be in the car when coding. |

Oh boy... a little hint on that one: it's a woman and it will be her car... so she doesn't want him to mess it up

On the other hand, if my spouse sees this, I will end up driving something that sounds like an ice cream truck. I know this, because if he wrote like this on any forum in the world, I would do the same. WE live in cycle of vindictive moves, and pay backs, and I'm just predicting what would be a way for him to mess with my head. This would be an easy move to him. |

Hey pillpusher, thanks for your offer. I will definitely buy a cable from you when my car is here. Hopefully there will be matching coding software available for the new M cars. Is there a way to tell if the currently available software could be used to code the new M3 and M4, other than to try it?
I might need you to help me to get started, and then I can code for myself and fellow BMW owners in the local area.
