Side Swiped 3 weeks after Purchase

Bought my car on March 1st..... Three weeks later it is going to the shop.

Last night my car got swiped when the other driver merged into my line. This guy had a new 2013 Camaro with temporary tags like me...lol smh...

He was a honest guy though and his story with his claim (We both have Geico) matched with mine so my car is being fully covered under his policy.

My car goes in on Monday. I am potentially looking at new rims on both sides and bumper paint job.

Am I correct?

Sucks to hear, but that's not too bad. Looks like it'll buff right out...

That doesn't look that bad..

I am curious do you have that insurance that gives you a new car if the value is more than a certain amount. Anyone ever have to use that before?

I am meeting with the auto adjuster at the shop on Monday. On the phone they did say they'll cover the wheels if needs be.

I am actually surprised the fender wasn't affected. I got hit fairly hard I believe. Man these cars are built STRONG. My last car, an Acura, would have been twisted up.

I may be wrong but I thought that's how all insurance works. I have always had full coverage. If the damage is more than the value of the value of the car, they'll give you the KBB value

I suspect that they will replace or repair the one rim that was damaged, but not "both sides" as you suggested in the first post. Even a fairly beat up rim can be repaired if the damage isn't structural, so I bet that's what they will do in your case.

The shop probably will not replace anything. They will just refinish the bumper & wheel.

I expect that they will repair/replace both. I didn't attached pics of the passenger wheel but believe me, it is clearly messed up too from riding the side walk.

I'd worry about front suspension damage, personally... I trust they'll check all that out. It's surprisingly easy to bend suspension bits if the car gets hit the right way...

+1. Suspension would be my main concern even though the damage looks minimal. Make sure they get on that OP!

No they give you bluebook.. So if you bought a car new for 35k they give you used value for a 35k. So you might get 30k.. But with insurance that covers new car replacement they give you new value. It is either 1 or 2 years after purchase. So if you crash your car the end of the year you can walk into the dealer and buy a new car with no money out of pocket.

That really bites man. but at least it's fully covered. Some people need to go back to driving school.

Niceee. That must be an expensive premium on anyone's insurance.

Update: Brought it in yesterday and just got a call from the shop. The paint job is done and the rims are repaired. I was shocked that it could be done so quickly. They are just waiting on struts now that they ordered to do the alignment. I thought the alignment was still perfect but I understand that there are things they probably saw when the car was lifted.

So far I am liking this car shop. Enterprise and Geico has a office there so I guess they get a lot of work. I just hope it is quality work.
