M235i vs Cayman S

Dunno what it says, but interesting comparison considering the huge price difference.

For a second I was thinking to myself...how does he not know what it says if he posted the video...surely he watched it before posting it.

Then I heard the german, gave me a chuckle

Man...that Cayman S is so lush. I'd stab a man for one...just a beautiful car.

Hoping somebody here can give a translated summary.

I seem to have misplaced my Rosetta Stone.

hey guys,

autobild comes to the conclusion that the porsche comes close to being a true sportscar, where as the BMW is a very fast and fun to drive car for everyday driving. Taken the fact that the Cayman is way more expensive than the M235i, there is no real winner to be crowned. The Porsche definitely is built to be driven on racetracks, the BMW is suitable for everyday use. The car is equipped with a great engine and provides sporty handling which is hard to find with other cars in this category.

Pro Cayman:
- great traction (rear-engine)
- sound is more agressive (than 235i)
- excellent handling, very precise
- shifting with DKG works great

Pro M235i:
- big difference in price and running costs
- harmonic sound
- more torque at low rpm
- more suitable for daily use

Hope this helps, sorry for any mistakes, my english unfortunately isnt that good.

Cheers, Martin

Your English sounds pretty good to me.

Thanks for taking the time to translate - love the Cayman S, just can't get there in terms of price at this point in my life.

Jeez - just comes close? What the hell IS a "true sports car" to these guys then? Probably nothing less than a GT3 RS or the Speciale version of the 458...

Well.. first of all, the brands of "Bild" (eg sportbild, autobild...) dont really stand for what you could call top qualitiy journalism. ;-)
This "test" is very short and mostly points out the opinion based on an individual driving experience. So compared to magazines like for example "ATZ" who investigate features of cars in a lot more detailled and scientific way, autobild isnt really the top choice.

Second, yes i would say that over here most people only speak of true sports cars when you pretty much cant drive em on regular streets no more..
So since you mentioned it - the GT3 RS would probably fit the definition.

For starters, it's too heavy. But the biggest problem with the Cayman is that it is engineered to fill a market segment beneath the 911. If the Cayman was built to it's full potential it could well be absolute perfection.

Cayman is mid-engine, 911 is rear-engine although they keep moving it forward

Perhaps this was just lost in translation, as our German friend was nice enough to provide the summary for us.
