5AC - Automatic high beams

Is there anyone who has the automatic high beams on their 2er, without the premium package?

I read on this forum a while ago that adding the automatic high beams (for $250) will also add the auto-dimming rearview mirror at no cost.

Can anyone please confirm if that will also add the "319 Universal garage-door opener"?

Thank you in advance!

I think there's a little bit of confusion on that one. The bmwusa site only shows that you must add the auto-dimming rearview mirror for free if you select auto high beams but makes no mention of the garage opener, which is listed as a separate option. Common sense would dictate that it would be included as it is part of the rearview mirror (as far as I know).

The only way to get a definitive answer may be to ask your dealer to try to configure one with that and see what options get forced on and see if the Universal Garage Opener is one of them.

I think some people ordered it recently but I don't think any of these orders have made it our shores yet to get any real confirmation as far as I know.

Yeah, I tried on the website, but could not tell whether the homelink function was included.

I guess I will talk to my CA and report back. I just wanted to see if anyone had/ordered it without the premium package, and could confirm. Thanks!

Looks like there are 6 versions of rearview mirror per realoem.com: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...88&hg=51&fg=40

Not sure how accurate the site is, but it appears there is a chance that you may end up with the mirror #4 (part# 51169290697; auto-dimming with high-beam assist), which does not include the universal remote function, if you order the auto high beam without ordering the premium package.

Well guys, it was great while it lasted (for those of you who got it). The powers that be have caught on, and you now must add Premium Package for $2,300 if you try to select the standalone auto high beam option.

To be honest, this really pisses me off. I really, truly do not value dimming mirrors, pointless keyless entry, and unnecessary interior lighting that much. Just let us build the cars we want. Please.

You obviously have not had keyless entry or you wouldn't say that. I've been driving my sons 2000 528i and what a pain in the ass to fumble through your pockets for a frickin key when your carrying packages. I wouldn't buy a car without it or automatic dimming mirrors, that's like going back to the Dtone Ages.

Very fair point. "Pointless" was an exaggeration, but considering I haven't had it yet and thus haven't grown dependent on it, it doesn't have too much subjective value to me. I guess I just find the premium package as a whole to be overpriced, especially when previously you could parse out the most important parts of it into standalone options.

exactly how I feel. extra cost, extra complexity, extra weight for stuff I don't want, but no other way to order the stuff I do. make it a la carte, please!
