M performance supension vs M sport with dinan
Hey guys, im looking to buy a set of dinan springs for my 328i but im starting to seriously look at just swaping the whole thing for the M performance suspension... can any one school me on differences ill experience between the two? If it werent for the $1000 difference id go with the M perf and not even ask...

I think you're better off with the M Performance suspension, which is what I plan on doing. After reading several pages on the forum I'm convinced that doing just the springs will not improve the handling.

Difference is...... M Performance is Shock and Spring assembly, while obviously Dinan is spring only.
Based on what I've read Dinan supposedly mates best with M Sport Suspension with DHP. I went with Dinan for this reason....waiting on install though so can't give you any personal feedback. |

Do you have DHP? If not, M Performance will be a better result. If so, I'd go the Dinan route so you can stiffen things up, but still retain the dynamic/adjustable nature of the EDC dampers. Most early adopters have reported a significant improvement with just the springs alone... And when Dinan releases their shockware (which will remap EDC damping curves for a new, more aggressive Sport mode), then things will get even better.

Which is why I went the Dinan route. If the OP doesn't have DHP, then M Performance would make a lot of sense for him.

i have the normal m sport suspension... so i wanted to know the trade off to just dinan springs... i know the full m perf will most likely perform better but then theres the $1000 difference... if the dinan springs offer similar returns id opt for the dinan springs

Depending on how firm of a ride you like (I see you're located in NYC, where smooth roads are few and far between), it may be a tough choice. If you like to track the car,or prioritize taut body control while pushing the car hard, you may still find the stock passive dampers a bit too compliant - even with Dinan springs (although the springs will improve things). But if you're not into pushing the car hard, the firm ride of the M Performance suspension *all the time* may be more comprise than you're looking for.

Don't cheap out on the suspension. If BMW felt all you needed to do to improve the performance was throw on some stiffer springs that's what they would have released, but instead they also included the shocks.

Bought the dinan kit. Asked them which dampers to get with them they weren't very helpfull.
i'll probably get some coilovers or m performance suspension now. Taxes on importing to brazil are too expensive for me to be dinan's guinea pig. |

Obrigado ocarioca1m... I hear you, and as for tracking the car the reason i went for an f30 was more for a less high strung non track car... had a stage 2 evo x on kw v3 and hotchkis sway bars that was an otherwordly track car but o so harsh on these nyc streets... then just now a stage 2 STI that was less harsh but still harsh... most likely subaru brz will be my toy/track car... so i guess dinan springs it shall be...

EXACTY! Never lower car by springs alone on stock struts - totally destroys handling! Why people purchase a $50k plus car and then slap on $400 springs for looks all the while totally messing up the dynamics of the cars performance is mind boggling to me! Do it right, invest in your car and your life - spring plus appropriate struts or coil overs! Dinan pissed me off, called them and they had no stut suggestions - only looking to make a buck! Hop into a car with MPS before you decide, it is definitely not as crashy as your EVO on coilovers. There is still a level of comfort.
Get the MPS and sell off your Msport if you are really conscious on the budget. |

I must be the only guy on here who: had an msport suspension > got dinan springs (on a non DHP car) > and now MPS. Loving the MPS setup.
Heard a lot of people saying its very stiff and would be unbearable on 20 inch wheels. It is perfectly fine for me, stiff ride when it needs to be and comfortable when there is a smooth road. PS - I have dinan springs for sale, for a 335 if anyone is interested.
