5W30 Castrol Oil Running Hotter

It's winter here in Toronto and it is -5C.

I have been using Mobil 1 0W40 for the past year and my engine temps used to get to around 105C (220F) on my daily commute (about 23kms highway).

Yesterday I had the oil changed to Castrol 5W30 and this morning, my engine temps got up to about 115C (240F) on the same drive - no traffic and no spirited driving, just cruising. I would say the engine is a bit more quiet with the new Castrol than the Mobil 1 though.

The engine bay "smells" and runs significantly hotter. The car has an oil cooler.

Anyone else noticed the same thing?

I use Royal Purple 5W30. Oil temp about 210 on Map 2. Still starts even below -40. The battery on the other hand it doesn't like sitting there doing all the dme checks. If I don't drive it everyday in that weather I need to throw the charger on it.
