Convincing Dealer to upgrade DME

Hey guys. I got my 2011 335i a few weeks ago and my COBB AP a few days ago. Of course my ROM is one of the 2 unsupported versions for the AP I am having the dealership perform some warranty work Monday and want to get them to upgrade the DME without being too shady. COBB said I probably wouldn't be able to and I could return the unit but I'm gonna give it a shot. I actually have an occasional long crank but are there any other buzz words to guide them to an update or should I just throw money at them and beg. Thanks!

Tell them there is a tsb out for the update. There is one so you have a valid excuse. That's what I said and they couldn't say shit. If they say no, say you will contact headquarters and complain. Google up the tsb and bring it and show them. Make sure you go in knowing everything and can argue back. I had to go to two diff dealers to get it done and I had to be firm.

TSB excuse would be a nice try but really doesn't constitute a DME upgrade here in the U.S.. I was in the same dilemma when I first purchased my car, but I got away with the dealer updating the DME when they needed to fix the brake sensor calibration.

Let's say you have a malfunction with the ground on your DME and it warrants replacing. When they replace the DME will it be the most up to date version when they install it?

I recently had to go in for some DME issues. I was getting random warning lights, ABS brake and some others would flicker on and off then go away while driving down the road. The first thing they did was re-flash my DME, it ended us being something else ( shorted sensor throwing everything off) but if you tell them you're having the same issue they just might updating you for the hell of it.

If you just need a flash the latest update is actually an emissions update and is covered under the emissions warranty. Tell them the car dies on startup.

Thanks for the help everybody. Hopefully it won't be a big deal but I'll be prepared if they're dicks about it.
Also, is "flashing" the dme the same as upgrading it?

I was still under warranty and told them I had rpm fluctuations when warm and cold and at times it acted like it wanted to stall. Those are the buzz words.

Use either the tsb excuse or say your experiencing rough idles and say you have read plenty of ppl with the same issue and the 98G0B version.

Just got this done couple of days ago. I brought a copy of the SIB and told them I was having RPM fluctuations when my steering wheel goes from lock to lock and they updated it for me. They didn't give me a hard time about it.

Here's the report, I think...

http://www.scribd.com/doc/151944423/...T-Stalling-TSB

I know it says DCT, but there is no mention of DCT only in the TSB. By the way, is there any way to tell what DME software you have in the car already? I'm going to assume you probably have to hook up to diagnostics?

are you referring to updating the dme software or getting a newer dme?? theres a difference.. if you are looking to just update your dme software that's easy! theres a bunch of ways to go about it including what some people already said in this thread for me I had a problem on a cold start where the engine would rev by itself on a cold start.. that calls for a dme update! do your research and once you find a loop hole exploit it

Welp, they're being dicks about it. TSB in hand. If it's not malfunctioning for them they won't do anything about it..Also have to get a loaner because they haven't gotten around to my 8am service appointment at 4:00. Anybody know any good dealerships in Alabama?

I finally got it done for free. Buzz words were low speed rpm fluctuations and sometimes the car acted like it wanted to stall. Hope this helps!

Is there a way to know which DME you have installed?

I had fuel pump replaced due to long cranks couple of months ago, does that mean they updated it?
