SES Code P02D1

Just got this fault code today.
Torque app can only say powertrain and nothing else.

I think the engine still pull strong, however there is something weird about the tranny. I can't say for sure but it seems as if it doesn't shift in a lower gear upon demand.

Any input?

Might not matter but has your car been tuned?

I had just about the whole exhaust system replaced. One turbo, EGR valve, EGR cooler, DPF, SCR, back pressure sensor.

Thanks Brad

I took the car at the dealer Friday afternoon. I was told they will get to it on Monday.
Meanwhile I drive a 535d loaner. I like it a lot. Seems to have less power than mine.

Currently my car lacks some power in the low RPM range, it wakes up around 3000 RPM.
I thought the first turbo was at fault again. The engine revs fast but there is a lack of (perceived) boost.

I have used some fuel additives for the past 2 months. Mainly Diesel Kleen. I was hoping it would keep the injectors clean too.

You think the DDE is not able to monitor the injectors properly. Is this what you mean?

There is actually a tsb that blames the zero adaptation fault on a bad DDE. The situation listed in the tsb is very specific but to me it suggests there is/was a DDE issue. You wouldn't be the first one on here to have that fault because of a DDE.

As I've posted before, the e90 US 335d (DDE7 vs EU DDE6) has gone through no fewer than NINE part numbers since product introduction! It is quite clear they are having some unspecified QC issue with it.

My DDE was replaced due to zero quantity adaption errors. So were many others on here.

I had the DDE software rewritten twice (I think, once for sure) by the dealer in the past.

Is it still not enough for some of those issues? Doe the whole thing need to be replaced?

BTW, it's the end of the day now and the dealer hasn't called yet.

I think its a hardware issue. The TSB advises replacement of the DDE rather than a reflash

Next time I talk to them, I will mention that.

I imagine I have to pay for it, right? My car is out of warranty. Or is the TSB is some kind of "recall"?

The DDE is covered by the Federal 8/80k emissions warranty; you might get lucky.

Got a call back from the dealer.

Apparently they will replace all injectors under emission warranty, but there is one more thing bad with it.
The DEF module has gone bad and it cannot read properly the amount of liquid inside the tank, the SA also said it cannot read the amount of fuel inside the tank (I know this is just huge BS).
The cost of replacing the module is about $700, not covered under warranty.

Why wouldn't the DEF related part be covered by the emission warranty?
