Upgrading HU_NBT and touch controller retrofit

I found this post on retrofitting the touch controller to pre-LCI f10's:

Quote:
Hello!

I'd the chance to get a touch controller for a small price. Hope it will be here tomorrow. Now I'll try to retrofit it in my M5.

The dimensions should be the same, the connector also. As I know there's no other hardware required (of course NBT).

I'll code the following:
HU_NBT/3000_HMI/ZBE_TOUCH_INTERACTIVE_MAP set to aktiv
HU_NBT/3000_HMI/ZBE_TOUCH_SPELLER set to aktiv
HU_NBT/3000_HMI/ZBE_TOUCH_BROWSER set to aktiv
HU_NBT/3004_SYSTEM/EINSTELLUNGEN/ZBE_TOUCH set to aktiv

A question for me is:
HU_NBT/3004_SYSTEM_EINSTELLUNGEN/ZBE_LOW at the moment nicht aktiv

Other ideas or have anybody tried it before?

CU Oliver
It mentions that you need the 50.4 software, and it mentions upgrading the HU_NBT through esys.

Has anyone upgraded their pre-LCI software? Is flashing the HU_NBT firmware the same as upgrading the idrive software, and does doing this require activation again, or does it just work?

No, this procedure requires putting the car on a charger and flashing the head unit with the newer firmware (several hours).

Thanks for the info. Are there instructions on how to do this somehow? And is there a way to find out what my current software version is?

Write-up: I am not sure.
Firmware version in your car: you don't have the volume bar when adjusting the volume, Siri when pressing the voice command button (long press) etc. then your head unit isn't running the latest firmware.
BMW put it on last summer I believe starting with 2014 year model cars.

Contact Patryk from Bimmertech. He can get you the I drive touch and update the NBT. It works flawlessly in my car.

V12 - Do you know if the firmware for Siri Eyes-Free has been released yet? BMW said it would be a feature on 2014 cars, but release was supposed to be Q1.

BTW when I see eyes free - I mean the feature where the Siri prompts appear on the nav screen, whereas today you can get siri from the steering wheel button but you don't have the text on the screen.

People do not necessarely retrofit the new iDrive touch controller when upgrading the firmware in their head unit.

If you want the controller though/ are curious about it, here it is:

Hmm, I think I might update mine.

I don't want the touch controller, but SIRI and the volume bar would be nice to have. Any other differences @v12 ?

My understanding is that BMW isn't going to support carplay.

That was BMW's original statement. They might have changed their opinion.

I hope BMW keeps iDrive. It has come a long way since 2006, and IMO is the best MMI in the auto industry.

I would be fine with having something like "AirPlay" available as an iDrive ConnectedDrive App.. where you can send your maps, video, or screen to the iDrive display.

It would be a shame if BMW favored iOS In The Car over iDrive.

Is anyone offering this update as a service? Will dealer do the upgrade?
