JB4 Log - Stock 335XI
First chance to log with the JB4 G5 ISO and have a look on a stock 335XI. Apreciate any input on the log including parameters to use or view.
The car is totally stock other than the JB4 on Map 5 with 91 octane at -6C ambient air temp. Spark plugs and air filter have about 5,000 km on them. Not quite wot early in the scan because of traction and road conditions. Here's the log http://datazap.me/u/foghorn/335xijb4...=1-4-6-9-11-13 Cheers |

It seems there are a few knock occurrences. Only cylinder 1 is available you can just hope that knock on the other five cylinders is minimal. That is one of the main drawbacks of a piggyback and why I chose Cobb over it. Maybe try a lower map and post it up for us.

Thanks for the input jazze90, sensible advice.
Your comments on logging knock sent me on a few tangents. Interesting that the JB4 only logs cylinder 1 unlike the Cobb where all cylinders can be logged. More intriquing still is that individual cylinder knock is a calculated value. The other JB4 maps available have max boost values that exceed the 12.6 psi of boost in my log, maybe I'll have to use custom values in Map 6. |

12 lbs of boost seems pretty low for a stock 91 tune. I'm running 16 lbs on Stage 0 OTS from Vishnu and I'm almost FBO. I was running the same boost with DCI's only.

For lower grade fuels I'd suggest adding in the free PUMP back end flash. Will get boost up to around 15psi down low and clean up those timing drops. Also keep in mind boost is lower partially due to the colder weather. You move a lot more air with less boost when its cold out and thus hit octane limitations at lower boost levels.

DCI only flash tuned @ 16psi on 91 vs his 12psi stock jb4 on 91 isn't really apples to oranges in my mind. I fail to see what you're getting at. I'm at high altitude and it's near end of winter in Colorado, there's literally no reason he shouldn't be pushing the same kind of boost on 91 with a JB4.

So whats the advantage to running a JB4 at that point if the flash just reverses what the JB4's primary function is?

Makes sense. Adding one of these to my list of mods is gonna have to happen eventually when I go for more power anyway.

Is running less timing and more boost the goal of the beck and flash? Are there other scenarios the back end flash is intended to improve?
Is there consensus on whether more timing and lower boost or lower timing with more boost leads to more usable power for a daily driver? |
