Compared to the Europe version, the high pressure EGR is equipped with the following special features: • Electric EGR valve with positional feedback • Temperature sensor before high pressure EGR valve • EGR cooler with bypass |

Here's a VW TDI with a bad intake CBU. This guy performed an EGR valve and cooler delete. He got a "check engine" light on afterwards.
If it is a diesel it will be plagued by CBU. |

The ebay part is meant for euromarket as it is actuated by vacuum. US version has an electrical actuation. But here's the question. If you have EGR coded out, does the ECU care if the EGR is connected up electrically anymore?
TDI, would mind disconnecting the EGR from harness and see if ECU cares? If it doesn't care, this is a another way to cork the system. The only downfall is there is no way to connect the EGR cooler so that would have to be removed. I wouldn't want it hanging off the exhaust flange only, but that's me. So, exhaust flange would need to be corked too. Perhaps, with all of the other work it wouldn't be cost efficient to do this. I would not want it all shiny like that drawing attention to itself that it is not factory emission equipment. I'm thinking i would some how paint it/coat it to look the same as the throttle plate color. |

If you don't mind clearing codes and don't want to modify the EGR hardware, you can try this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=891797 |

Live and learn. That Euro dummy EGR has no valve hardware blocking flow path. Just wondering if there are any appreciable gains if the US spec EGR's throat were modified to get rid of the actual shaft and boss of the exhaust gas injector?
Thanks TDI |

I am reading comments and it looks like there is a mess.
In US EGR has electric actuator to get feedback from the valve and make it harder to block. In EU you just pool a vacuum tube and block it and EGR is not working. The part in the subject is meant to replace the EGR valve body, so by the eye it looks like the same as we have, and it makes sens to install it only if you have EGR coded out. And there are different topics where me and other people were showing how we deal with our EGR's. |

Agreed. As time progressed and some tuning options emerged that could deal with the US EGR system, this became a valid approach. With Jarek's remap I was able to do as you describe above. I think there's quite a few of us doing the no EGR cooler option now.

I for one really like being able to put the catch can where the cooler used to be. I'm in the minority of not worrying about can and piping not freezing. My inlet/outlets are about 10" each with a 90° elbow in the middle of each run. |

I worked around the EGR limp mode issue by modifying the valve actuator like so:
335D EGR Valve Motor It's still connected and works, just doesn't do anything anymore. |

Water vapor is one of the constituents of the stuff coming out of CCV system. I do remember you going coolerless now, Lexx. Thanks for reminder.
