Auto Start Stop Feature - ASS

I notice when I driving during the evening and ASS engages and shuts off the engine, upon starting up, the headlights slightly faintly flicker. Just wondering if you guys are experiencing this and if its a normal thing. thanks

Yes! That happens to my car too. If I'm charging something in the car, or even my radar detector beeps as they stop charging for a split second. It's kind of annoying. I'm curious as to whether the more refined 2014 ASS is better.

The light dimming is normal. The starter motor is pulling a lot of amps to start the engine, and as a result the battery voltage is pulled down (because of battery internal electrical resistance). I think that will be a feature on any car with ASS, except a hybrid. On my wife's Hybrid Accord, there is no voltage drop on motor start (and hence no light dimming) because:
a. The starter runs off the 144 volt hybrid battery, not the 12 volt bus
b. The 12 volt bus is powered by a DC/DC converter that makes 12 volts from the hybrid battery source.
I think that F30 cars with NAV have a DC/DC converter that keeps a nominal 12 volts (actually 13.8 volts) to the electronics even when ASS pulls battery voltage down. I think that stabilized voltage goes only to electronics, so the headlights probably still dim on start.

I have my reservations on the long term effects of ASS to the electrical and engine as well. Hopefully nothing big but only time will tell.
