Are 20"s too big?
Was going through the photoshop thread, at its hard for me to tell, but I think most of those are 19"s ??
Question is whether 20" HRE's would look too big on this car.. I assume that 20"s are easier to bend on the crap Boston roads too. |

On the F-chassis, no way bro. Just take a look at all of the F30's on 20's. The F8X will be wider; 20's will be quite fitting. 19" wheels tend to look undersized, but 19" ZCP-type wheels look good because of the design.

People aren't 'all GO' on the streets and nobody uses 20's at the track, so the "All Show, No Go" comments aren't really appropriate here (..and depending on the weight of the wheels, there may not be much difference between a 19" and 20" wheel to begin with). Boulevard cruising, commuting, stoplight racing and the occasional back road romps are where majority of these ///M3's spend their time.
From an aesthetic and admittedly subjective standpoint, the F-Series cars look better on 20's. |

IMO (and not bagging on your car) those look like wheels for a show car not performance. I think 19s will look much more aggressive. Hell I may even get some of those lame tires w/ white lettering like in GTA V lol.

20's are definitely not too big for any F car. My problem with them is weight. Even if the 20 inch wheel is only a pound or so heavier than a 19 inch wheel, the 20 inch tire will also be heavier than a 19 inch tire (apples to apples, same brand/model tire).
So overall there is always a weight penalty with 20's, even with the most exotic lightweight wheel. They look fantastic, but weight is the enemy. |

...and yeah, I do just cruise around in my ///M just like the large majority of the population. When I do choose to go to the track there are wheels and tires for track duty (..although I prefer tracking/racing on 2 wheels rather than 4) Last edited by Sedan_Clan; 02-27-2014 at 05:10 PM.. |

The OP simply asked how they would look. I'm just showing how it will look. My offset is way too aggressive for performance anyways. But I bet with the proper offset these 20" wheels would probably out handle most of the 19" wheels out there. These wheels weigh about 23lbs. Not too bad for 20".

My last reply in this thread cause I just feel like I'm arguing now. I said I think 19s look more performance oriented and aggressive. So regardless of how it handles on the street or the track I think it looks more performance oriented with 19s. Even more so with 18s probably. That's just me.

To each his own, but as far as aesthetics go, all you have to do is look at real race cars to see what performance looks like... |

I would go with 20's for sure. Looks way better and with the right ones you can get a lighter option than the stock 19's..Add to that the increased 10mm width y as you could probably get and the handling would be better as well as the look imo

That is an apples to oranges comparison. You know better than that Brosef. We aren't driving "real race cars". That's like comparing my track/race built bikes to a GP bike; the latter being as one-off/bespoke as a professional race car. |

I never said that you're driving a race car because of it, but the pros are stacked significantly in favor of 18's. - lighter - lower rotational inertia - extra sidewall provides smoother ride - less likely to damage a wheel on rough pavement therefore, I don't see any concessions or reason not to get 18's, since I prefer the look anyway. conversely, the only argument I see for 20's is that they look better to some people (not to me). if I'm missing something, please correct me. looks are, of course, subjective. different strokes for different folks. maybe we'll see someone sack up and put some dub pimpstars on an M. |
