Is this a good car for me?

I'm in the market for a new car and I'm very interested in a 335d. I love the fuel economy, the power, how well it responds to modifications, the practicality of a four door and the looks. However, reading this forum has me concerned about the reliability, especially because a CPO would be at the very top of my budget (~28k).

The odd thing is that reviews elsewhere are stellar, with a lot of people claiming that the 335d is one of the most well rounded cars ever made.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

No one disagrees about that statement here.
Sure is one of the most well rounded cars I've ever owned.

Its always reliable, just some issues with the emissions system.
Its no Honda Accord but neither is it Hyundi Sonata (lemon).

Been a great car for me!

Lately I have been looking for something more practical to replace my d because the factory warranty is due to expire on June 10th 2014. My car is paid off and it just hit 33k mi. It has truly been an awesome car to own because it a perfect mix of everything you expect from German sports sedan. I have been looking at SUV's and recently drove a $45K 2014 Tuxedo black Ford Explorer Sport with every options. I was expecting to be blown away from all of it's power after reading all of the articles and watching all of the You Tube video's. Well needless to say I was not impressed its speed however was comfortable and takes pot holes better than any 3 series BMW. Don't get me wrong, it gets out of it's way for a heavy SUV but I wasn't about to finance $20K after they told me they could only give me $25K for my car as a trade in. When the salesman was showing me how the computer monitors all of the information the fuel mileage read 8 mpg!
I was recently quoted $2,500 by my dealer to extend my factory warranty to an additional 4 years and 75k total miles with a 3rd party Warranty Company called Mastertech?
No matter what car I look at I keep coming back to my d. If I decide to keep it I most definitely will purchase a warranty based on what I have been reading on the forums about the carbon build up and fuel injectors.
My car has been garage kept since purchased new and I change my oil every 6K miles. The dealer only changed my oil 3 times and I will miss last free change by a couple of months.
Good Luck with your decision but definitely test drive a 335i before you pull the trigger on the d. I never did...the d got me after my first test drive!

My neighbor just brought home a 335i. He is quite excited with it. I drove it with him. Feigned excitement. I didn't offer my 335d to him to drive….thought I'd let him if he asked…there is no comparison to the feeling with the torque. Love my d and accept there may be some emissions issues…so far so good….can't find anything to replace it….its that good to me.

I don't know man. I couldn't stop giggling like a schoolgirl when I drove my buddy's 335i with just a DCI and Alpina flash. The thing I like about the 335i vs. the 335d is the noticeable lack of throttle lag when gunning the car in D mode and no hiccup in DS mode from a stop like in the diesel, with or without the JBD. It's just Country Crock buttery smooth!
