We had a great turn-out last year.
This is the meet from Mar 2013.

What's the plan this year?

First meet @ 8:30 AM at Captree State Park.
On the parking lot at 3500 Ocean Pkwy, Babylon, NY 11702

We will then cruise along the 40 miles on the shore to get to Floyd Bennett at 10 AM.
If the weather is good, this should be awesome!

Where are we meeting and parking?
When you first turn into the park and make it passed the gate, you need to make the first left onto the main road and take it all the way down.
You will see a couple of airplane hangers to your left where we will be parking at.

What type of event is this going to be?
Responsible owners will get together for a chance to drive, meet and mingle with other like-minded responsible enthusiasts.
This is also a family-friendly event so feel free to bring your significant other(s).

Cars: This is a all-models BMW event but ALL makes are welcome.

This is not a commercial event. No permit is required and none was obtained.
Cops patrol the grounds. So please no runs, donuts and other aggressive maneuvers.

Are there any restrooms on the grounds?
Yes, in the Visitor Center and near the campground.

What's the history of that place?
Under the guidance of Robert Moses, Floyd Bennett Field was built originally on Barren Island in Jamaica Bay, and was later connected to the mainland with sand dredged from the bay.

The airfield was named for Naval Aviator and Brooklyn resident Floyd Bennett, who was the first person to fly over the North Pole.

Famous aviators, including Amelia Earhart and Howard Hughes flew out of this airfield. It was taken over by the Navy during WW II and decommissioned in the 1970s. It is now part of the National Park Service.

Thank you everyone for coming out!
The Captree meeting spot was awesome and getting there early pays off: just a great cruise which ends with the the Robert Moses Causeway (bridge). Beautiful scenery.

Our group left later than planned as we hung out a little longer than expected.

We got to Floyd Bennett Field to see there was an event taking place. Other members who had skipped the Captree meet probably arrived, saw no one and must have left.
Those who got together at a spot near the water at Floyd Bennett eventually came and went. Groups of people arrived, stayed a bit then left.

Note: The forums software seems to sensor the short URLs Google Maps uses when sharing a location.

Stay tuned, another meet is in the works for the end of June. In the meantime see you all Rallye BMW for their annual Car Show on June 1 2014!

March is a bit early for a meet. Most of us will still be in winter mode and the potholes on the Belt now will destroy your car.

Congrats!

Last year I did this at the end of Mar. (on the 23th). Same intent this year and we will push back to early Apr. if needed.

The roads and the weather should be fine by then.
