Muffler Delete drone options!
Today I had my muffler deleted on my 07 e92 335i. My mods are bms downpipes, dci, and jb4. The drone is really unbearable and I am wondering what my options are (resonator, aftermarket muffler etc). I know I can put my oem muffler back but that means I literally wasted all that money. Thanks

Google side branch resonators or helmholtz resonators. It'll cost you for fab and parts but it works and keeps the exhaust loud where you want it.

Not surprised at all. Get your OEM Mufflers installed and see if ACM can mod them for you (remove some of the muffler internal-sound deadening material) or look at rear section exhaust like the Billy Boat or UUC/Corsa.

Drive above 80... lol.
But in all seriousness, not much you can do about the drone with a muffler delete. I know because I've done it as well. It eventually gets a lot better but the 1st few weeks are pretty brutal, especially if you drive mostly highway. Cold starts are loud as hell and between 2200 and 2600 RPM you will want to kill yourself. Once the car warms up it's a lot better too. I'm working on a custom exhaust set up with some Resonaters and J pipes. Once it's done I'll upload a sound clip. |
