Steptronic shifting characteristics when cold
My 335i has 90k miles and the mechatronics sleeve and fluid was changed at 50k . Car is all stock except for recently installed JB4 and has been well maintained by the dealer and babied by an old lady PO.
I notice that the first 2-->3 shift of the day at really low speed and rpm is a bit firm. I'll preface that by saying I am a paranoid weirdo who notices anything that can be noticed in a car. A bit firm by my standards is something that most other people I know would not even notice. After a minute of driving that shift are not noticeable. Every other gear change is like butter and not noticeable at all times. Ive read that it is due to torque converter lockup tendencies and the gear ratios between second and third being a huge gap, combined with cold fluid. Can anyone confirm or deny my paranioa and make me feel at easy that its normal trans behavior? Another 335i that I test drove exhibited similar behavior. Thanks |

I have the Alpina flash. Mine shifts like a POS 3-4 and 4-5 when cold. 59,000 miles. Fluid/filter/mechatronic sleeve done 10,000 miles ago.
Car also exhibits a noticeable bump shift down to first all the time in sport mode. |

I have noticed harsh 3-4 shift only when the weather overnight is below freezing. This only happens for first shift after cold start in am after that its normal . Most of the searches have led me to the conclusion that it is common & dealer said that if can't be reproduced after first shift nothing is wrong.
