991 Turbo S R&T Test

The acceleration below 100mph is impressive. The acceleration above 100mph makes we question whether the car was running in tip-top shape or maybe some bad gas. Its 60-130mph interval was 9.4s and GPS trap speed was only 124.4mph ... not bueno for a car of this caliber. For comparisons sake a 997 Turbo S (tested by the same mag) matched it 0-60mph, beat it 0-100mph (6.3 vs 6.8) and did the 1/4m in 10.7 @ 128.9mph (vs 10.9 @ 124.4mph).

Something's not right. M5/M6 smoke this 60-130 stock.

Yup. Not right.

This video pretty much proves it. Traps 128 mph at 10.63 stock.

And a Turbo (non S) traps 126 mph at 10.93

I can tell you with certainty that my TT pulled CRAZY hard from 70-140. Got there so fast when I did it that I couldn't believe it.

This trap speed is kind of low, too. People over in the P-car forums - 6speedonline etc - are trapping much higher iirc.

EDIT: sorry - just realized you had raised this in the original post. Ignore.

Very interesting indeed--- normally we see mag numbers better than our real life numbers due to corrections but here its a polar opposite. If my car only traps 124 I want a refund LOL.

I am sure we will see better times as more come out. Not too many have really hit the track yet. As we will know, track condition, weather conditions, etc. are going to affect times. With more runs we will see varied times.

Did you say that was slow?! Hahahaha! Kidding. I know what you meant.

Slower than I expected. That trap speed seems off. And the fact that the roadholding indicated "moderate understeer" makes me think this was a test car in poor shape. There is no excuse for a 997.2 TTS to be faster than a 991!

+1

I was all excited to see the first US magazine test and it fell short of my expectations. I will give the benefit of the doubt to something being off with this particular car and am sure future tests will be more representative.

Did I read the comment about sport mode correct? Its best left for tracks?? Maybe they tested this mule with sport mode off and in that case I can see why the higher speed numbers suffer.

Also, we are looking at one dimension of this car and judging it's "improvement" over previous models. The chassis of the 991 is in an entirely different league than the 997. The car is simply remarkable. Right now there is truly nothing else that I would prefer. Nope. Not even a Lambo. The Porsche is the very best all around car on the market in my opinion. You don't have to baby it and it responds precisely to what you tell it to do.

0-60 in 2.6. Rep sent to Porsche. As I said before: Porsche is on fire right now.
