Service Interval does not mean Oil Change?

Apparently. iDrive tells me the car is due for service in 2,000km (15,000km total) but the oil change is not due until 24,000km.

Bugger that for a game of soldiers, condition based system notwithstanding. What gives?!!

I guess I can ask for the oil to be replaced at my cost at 15,000km, but I can just as easily do it myself now at 13,000km, which is midpoint between the 'official' OCI.

Is this the case with all F30/F31s?

Main Service includes oil change, the minor service is just an oil change really and referred to as an Oil service.

So your first one is a major service, one after that is Minor (oil), and that repeats except for special service items that occur through the life of the car.

It's the case since BMW went to Condition Based Service, beginning at least on the E9x. It's very annoying, as it means more trips to the dealer for us owners. For instance, in 6 months I had to go to the dealer for: Oil change, Service, Brakes. Three trips rather than one.

Cheaper for the dealer, that's for sure. Check your maintenance manual to find what the service consists of, AND DON'T BUY THE DEALER TRYING TO PUSH MORE STUFF ON YOU.

If you check the status in iDrive it will tell you what's actually do. It could be an inspection, brake pads, brake fluid flush or something else. The prompt at start-up simply gives the mileage until the next required service, not the next oil change.

Thanks for your comments, one and all. I was really hoping to get an oil change at the first scheduled service at 15,000km but this does not look like it'll happen under the included service plan I have.

Is there any harm in leaving the original filter in place but change the oil with fresh Castrol Edge 5W30 LL01?
