Throttle Response: JB4 G5 iso vs Cobb
Another twist on the whole jb4 vs cobb. I've searched but haven't found anything releveant to how the throttle response feels on the JB4 G5 ISO compared to the Cobb. I know power delivery is smoother with ISO. I've seen tons of threads about linear vs stock throttle on the cobb.
I drive a 335i manual and had a tuned Genesis coupe that had a very sensitive throttle compared to stock. I liked it sometimes and hated it others. The cobb seems to have the advantage in the scenario because you can switch between the "Stock and Linear". It would be great to have a "M" button like the M3! My question is how does if feel driving each of these tunes everyday? Is the throttle "touchy" w/ the JB4? Does it feel stock? If there is any information already covering this please link it b/c I couldn't find it. |

With a Cobb pro-tune, it is possible for your tuner to adjust the throttle to be whatever you want it to be. Not sure about JB, I have no experience with it. My tuner has a custom throttle mapping setting that's the perfect blend of quick attack down low while feeling linear through the rest of the pedal travel. Lots of options...
And btw, while it'll never show up on a dyno, pedal/throttle mapping makes a huge difference in car feel and driveability. |

You can adjust the default wastegate position with the JB4 under menu option 10. Adjusting this higher will give you snappier throttle response, and adjusting it lower will give a more numbed throttle response. You can change it at will, as you see fit, and on the fly. This same menu option is used to help get rid of wastegate rattle.

Although the Cobb OTS maps have most bases covered with Linear to stock throttle mapping. I haven't had any complaints with any solution and I've tried them all. (Procede rev2.5, Cobb AP, JB3, JB4 G5/ISO, BT flash).

I adjust my throttle response with a combination of my foot + the seat of my pants.

There is a massive difference between default wastegate position and % pedal travel = % throttle opening. They really are 2 different (but connected, obviously) systems. They might sort of feel the same initially but they are not.

On the JB4 gas pedal to boost input is somewhat adjustable using menu 10 and/or 12 in dash. Lower values provide a more linear "dead" feeling at low throttle input and higher values put it more "on edge".

My tuner, Brentuning, has the magic throttle mapping of the angels figured out. I learned about the magic of throttle mapping trickery years back when I drove one of the non-turbo subaru's that he had tuned (~175 hp) and was amazed at how different (better) it felt. He called it one of the "driveability" parts of the tune. There is a lot of room for improvement on the stock setup, and a lot of people don't like cobb's linear option either. I think the trick is making the power feel linear, with enough bottom end bite to make it interesting.
Of course boost to perception of power is not close to linear; we can't really feel a difference between 95% and 100% throttle, but the difference between 5% and 10% is significant. Correctly mapping that makes for a significantly better driving experience. I think Bren told me he went through 10 or 12 revisions before he settled on the current settings. /digression |

The JB4 with the backend flash also tinkers with the low end and I notice a much smoother and stronger acceleration with the flash.. The car is much snappier with the flash opposed to JB4 alone.
