BMW Perf SSK discussion
Here is what you get with the BMW Performance SSK. A boot, a knob, a shifter, a c-clip, and a plastic cup. I bought the kit but I only plan to use the shifter, plastic cup, and c-clip. The rest of the items, I split them up with someone else. My car is an e90 330i. For installation, go here:http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52240

The plastic cup is very tricky to remove. After further examination, you must turn the plastic cup CW which will unseat it from the notch.

Here is what it looks like under the car with the new shifter in place. Basically nothing is different. I had to loosen the heat shield and push the heat shield toward the back of the car to give me access to this tight space to work.

Finally, before and after photos. Location wise, the shift is in the same place when in neutral. The shifter is now shorter and you find yourself hitting the area around the shift as you shift into 6 gear. The throw is also a little shorter and still have that rubbery feel to it. The shift feel very tight and I find myself having to use more force. Too early for me to say if I like or don't like the BMW Performance SSK. Notice I already have the Mtech shifter before this mod and I really like the way the shifter feel with only the Mtech shifter.

Hey everyone...i recently purchased this kit from tischer not realizing its for a 330i....i thought it would fit on my 335xi sedan...i have the exact kit pictured If anyone would like to buy it from me otherwise i will lose a 20% restocking fee. I paid 190.93 from tischer. so if i returned at the dealer i would get abut 150. Anyone want it for 150 and u pay for shipping its yours..or if anyone wants to pick it up from long island ny let me know. I would rather someone else get this item than bmw taking 20% from me because they advertise things confusingly...lata

BMW said it is 25% shorter throw travel. It is indeed shorter travel and more precise and require a whole lot of arm strength to shift (imo). Maybe because I am still not use to it yet. Even if I did not like the way it feel, I wil still keep it because it was a pain to install being that I did not have access to a shop lift and had to craw on my back under tight spaces during installation. Fortunately, so far I like it with one minor exception, being that it is much shorter, I find myself hitting the trim panel when shifting into 6th gear .

Wait, WTF, are you serious it doesn't fit on a 335xi? I thought these SSKs were supposed to fit all E90s including 335i and 335xi. If this doesn't fit that REALLY sucks since I was planning on buying one for my 335xi tomorrow !!!

Does anyone ever wonder why the throws have a shorter distance to travel with a short shift kit? Here is a little geometry. Also, why does it take more effort to shift with a short shift kit? That is where physics comes in (I think). Maybe a mathematician and a physicist can confirm.
Look at my drawing. The big round black dot represents the plastic round piece on the shift lever. The black diagonal lines represent the OEM shift at 3 and 4. The red diagonal lines represent the SSK shift at 3 and 4. The green lines represent the difference in the travel distance from the neutral position to the gear. This is the math part. Now for the physic part on why it takes more effort to shift. Notice the red diagonal line is shorter then the black line. That should give you an indication that with a shorter shift, you loose leverage so it takes more effort from you to shift. In addition the heavier knob helps lessen the effort to shift but I don't know specifically how (maybe it got something to do with mass and gravity). So what does everyone thing about my observation? A+, A-, A, B+, B-, or C or D or F I must get an A for visual graphic.

i see that you didn't keep the knob that came with the SSK and used the m-tech knob instead. comparing the two knobs is there a much difference in the height between them?

Height difference, no. But the SSK knob looks out of place with my setup. Second, I need the mtech knob because it provides a more secure grip for me. I am beginning to get the feel of this new SSK and it feels great with the shorter travel. Things are beginning to feel loosen up (mentally) after only 4 days with it .

No thanks, I am all worn out from this installation. Maybe you or Mr.5 can change my tranny fluid but I am not going to do it, not worht my time and not sure how much less effort my shifting will improve. I am happy with my current setup.
