Throw out bearing stuck!

My car is over at Cobb Plano getting a spec 2+ installed and they called me telling me that the stock throw out bearing is stuck... Anyone have any experience with a stuck throw out bearing? If so, what did you do or what was done?

I got an update that it's the pilot bearing that is stuck and not the throw out bearing.... either way my car isn't and won't be ready...

Throw out or even pilot bearing being stuck sounds weird. Do they have the trans out to even see it? At that point, it's cheaper to replace the whole clutch, pressure plate, and all the bearings (which come in the kit) as well as the fly wheel than it is to replace whatever bearing is screwed and put it back together.

Idunno. I trust cobb, but that sounds really weird. I'm guessing they're saying the car is stuck in gear, right?

It's at Cobb getting all of that put in. It's the stock pilot bearing that won't budge... They had it apart this morning and told me they couldn't get it out... Then called me at 6 and said they still couldn't get it out and that they had to call their Snap-On tool guy to have him bring some special tool on Tuesday since their closed on Sunday and Monday... All just stop they can install my stuff.... Huge pain in the ass

Had the same issue.
Tried the grease pressure trick, in the end we had to cut it out

dont think I have heard of anyone being able to get these out easily this really does require a special puller with a very fine grab to it . you would think cobb would of had the tool as this couldn't have been there first pilot bearing on a bmw

BMW should have a specific tool. One member, GeorgiaTech, used a harbor frieght slide hammer kit successfully after trying various other methods.

OOOH! I misunderstood. "stuck..." while getting upgrades or some such. Got it.

yeah, mine was a pain getting out. We had to use a slide hammer and be pretty unkind to it, the bearing, the inputshaft, and anyone within an earshot.

It took a few hours, but the slide hammer did the trick for me. The grease-gun method wasn't getting me anywhere but...sticky.

Good luck, man. Get some pics if you can. In the end, this will just be a good story.

That worked for me too. Same tool, i believe too.

The trick was to use the slide hammer attachment with the teeth that rotate outward as you screw it onto the slide hammer's shaft. It's too wide on their own to just slide in to the PB, so we had to use a punch to get one of the pins of the fingers out, slide the remaining attached tooth/finger into the PB (a friend is handy here since the hammer itself isn't exactly light), slide the removed finger in, pop the pin back in, then spread the fingers. In the end, it's a really crappy mechanical connection to the PB and it'll slide away from the PB with every hit of the hammer, but in doing so, the PB itself will come out a little.

We trashed the inside of the PB, but it did come out far enough to grab it and pull with vise grips.

It's at least good to know I'm not the only one! Yeah they have a guy from Snap-On bringing them some special tool on Tuesday so hopefully I get my car back then... Damn glad I didn't try this install myself lol
