Calling All Fully Catless Guy's
Hey guys so this is my first fully catless car (AE exhaust and VRSF DP's) and I notice if I am clearing snow off my car while the car is idling or basically just around my car while it's on that when I am done and go inside I smell like straight exhaust fumes. It is noticeable to me and my family says I wreak of fumes too.. I know most catless cars smell of exhaust fumes but is it normal for the smell to stick on me? It stays on my clothes sort of like cigarette smokers.. However there is never any smell inside the cabin.. I am considering installing secondary cats because I feel like if I smell that bad it can't be too great for my health

Normal. Just don't let Al Gore get a whiff of you.
A set of high flow cats to would be advised to take the edge off. I always felt like such an asshole at drive thru windows because of the smell.

I'm catless and never once experienced what you're describing. The inside of my car smells new and no one has ever told me my car smells even when driving behind me... Probably an unrelated issue.

Ive been completely catless for a year and the inside of my car smells like leather, coffee, and success... I'd make sure your DP was installed correctly. I'd remove the catless dp right away if I had ANY issues whatsoever (im still under warranty) |

Well it wasn't always this bad, I feel like with all the snow in the northeast I may have driven over ice and it could have loosened the dp and exhaust connection causing a small leak.. But I also am having no problems hitting boost whatsoever so I really don't know

It's normal, in the past I had cars with catless exhausts and if I stood outside them while they were idling, I'd smell like fumes. A leak shouldn't have anything to do with fumes outside your car. There are no cats so your exhaust is basically the same from the time it leaves the combustion chamber. A leak would just make the inside of your car smell. Cold weather may make it a little worse because your car takes longer to warm up. When the car is warmed up, the combustion is a little more efficient so fumes should get better.

I'm full catless with VRSF dp's + VRSF exhaust and there is a smell but I never smell it in the cabin. My girlfriend didn't even notice the smell until I asked her if she smelled anything.

Outside of the car, the smell of fuel and exhaust fumes can be a nuisance. Inside the car even with the windows down, no issues.

Aside from the fumes I would suggest you stop warming up your car like that. It's terrible for your gas mileage and supposedly not a great thing for your drivetrain. The numerous threads I've read on this topic on multiple platforms say to just start your car and go. In the coldest temps you should not let the car idle for more than a minute before driving off. Then drive calmly keeping the revs under 2500 until oil temps warm up to full operating temps. The car will warm up much faster this way. I live in the northeast as well.
Best of luck. |
