Best Performance Exhaust Not Loud

Hey everyone, I usually try to do my best to google and forum search for answers, but this one I cannot seem to find. I guess I am the opposite of many people on the forums, but I want an exhaust that is quiet not loud. I recently installed an Active Autowerkes Signature Exhaust on my e90, and it sounds mean, but in my opinion is too loud. I still want the performance and free flow, but I want something quiet. From my searches it seems to be the BMW Performance Exhaust or Dinan exhaust. Can anyone chime in on this?

From a performance stand point, an exhaust doesn't do much. Downpipes do though (20-30whp with a tune). Maybe get catless downpipes, if your down for that, and do the golf tee mod? bmw performance is liked by many and as loud as some other aftermarket exhausts

Look into 335is exhaust it could be a good option for you. It is also reasonably priced. I think you might find BMW performance exhaust too loud.

ETS, AE, milltek, and bastuck are all very tame aftermarket exhausts. If you want quiet though, stick with the oem exhaust and maybe cut out the stock secondary cats to weld in some high flow resonators or high flow 100 cell cats.

As others have stated. an exhaust will not give any performance on our n54 platform, or can be considered negligible. Performance wise, probably the last thing on the last.

Also exhaust aren't cheap, at least from a reputable company.

You should just go with dp's + stock exhaust and be done with it, max gains and great sound.

Thanks guys for the answers. I think I'm gonna go back to stock and just get downpipes. I don't really want to take a chance on another exhaust and have it not work out for me.

performance exhaust is so quiet.... just loud at cold start. Wish it was louder, oh well which is why I bought DP's + resonators (remove rasp).

This is exactly what I did. Stock exhaust with catless downpipes gives a nice sound with golf tee mod. Exhaust sound is very subjective but this works well for me. Plus the performance gains from downpipes is significant and trumps all catback options.

Unplug flap in trunk, install DPs and enjoy.

I know people want to be different but IMO just embrace the fact that this is probably one of the better sounding combos on this car (do to rasp) and its super cheap.

Plus you can plug your flapper back in for long trips or whatever.

If you don't want to plug/unplug the tubing or connect/disconnect the connector for the exhaust flap by hand each time you want to open/close it, you can install the ExhaustMeister which will allow you to do it by remote control.

I got a lot of SH*T in another thread for recommending the ExhaustMeister because it costs around $100 (really not that much in BMW terms) and is arguably "unnecessary." However, it is a more elegant and refined means of doing what you can do w/the Golf Tee mod for free, which I thought was well suited to what you should expect in a BMW.

So, I bought and installed it and am entirely happy with it. There's a little more exhaust note and I can open and close the exhaust flap any time I please with a push of one of the memory buttons on the mirror. Check it out and, if it's not for you, just do it the "old fashioned" way.

Enjoy!

Just another vote for downpipes with a stock exhaust (with or without an exhaust flap mod). The sound is still refined, but aggressive enough once you really get on the throttle. I like having a perfectly enjoyable cabin noise wise for daily driving, but there is no question that the screams at full throttle.
