E93 Nearside speakers blown

Hi all, anyone had any problems with their speakers on the E93?
After having the car for 6 months a 325i M Sport Conv and. Being the 3rd owner, the front and rear midrange and tweeter set on the Nearside all of a sudden blew.
The car was fitted with the 656 HiFi Loudspeaker system fom new (or was supposed to be but seems it wasn't fitted with the correct rear midranges as I found out after ordering new ones) because the rear near side speaker was different I had to check that the offside was fitted with the same but wasn't, so I had to replace that too.
After replacing them all, within two weeks they had blown again. The problems started when i heard heard an electrical popping and hissing sound through all the Nearside speakers, this sound continued even after the ignition was switched off.
I've been back to BMW and have now booked it in for them to investigate the problem to see if it the speakers that are at fault, in which case they will replace them but if not I will have to pay the £100 fee for investigation work.

Anyone had any similar problems at all ?

Sounds like the amp could be causing the failures... I don't know where the amp is on the E93 but if its in the boot then it might be worth checking it's not getting wet, damage etc?

E93 with hifi amp is notorious. Water ingress causes this.
Open your boot and start removing the trim on the left side and you will find the amp there. There may be some water ---> Malfunction of amp ---> Speakers blow.

Hey dubdemand and makkan, thanks for your replies. That is just what I suspected. In my earlier post 'BMW repair certificate', I spoke about water getting into the boot area on the nearside which had had a repair done and was still under guarantee.
As you rightly said makkan the amp is there and the evening before I took my car back to the main dealer to get the leak sorted it was raining heavily and the hissing, popping was especially bad.
They rang me when the car was ready and said all problems had been rectified but didn't give me anymore info about what had caused it.
Sure enough there was no hissing etc. but I wanted to know what had caused it as I didn't want to replace speakers and then they blow again.
So I emailed them to ask and his reply was 'we don't really know, we just removed the amp, cleaned all connections and replaced it and it seemed to do the trick.
So obviously he's not admitting it was a wet amp or they would have to replace the speakers and amp I expect.
My dilemma is, all the above work was carried out at the bodyshop in Winchester and tomorrow it's going to the service centre to be investigated, so, should I keep quiet about what the bodyshop said and hope the service centre come back with a wet amplifier as the cause and then I can tell them that it was caused by the shoddy repair work by their bodyshop, in which case they would surely have to replace all. Or do I bring that to their attention....?
What do you think?
