Where to buy 335D thermostats- Euro Car Parts or BMW dealers

Hi,

I am looking to change both of the thermostats on my 335D this weekend. I was wondering are the one's that Euro Car Parts sell any good and if they are genuine OEM quality. The reason why I ask as there seems to be quiet a significant price difference between them.

BMW Price
Main Thermostat - part number 11517805811 £58.06
EGR Thermostat - Part number 11711787870 £44.65
Total Price £100.71

ECP Price
Main Thermostat - Euro car parts link £34.56
EGR Thermostat - Euro car parts link £27.24
Total Price £61.80

ECP on ebay links

The EGR thermostat i got from ECP had beru stamped on it (which is oem)
Then the bmw badge had been ground away.

So was a genuine part in disguise.

I also bought the main stat from ECP

It works and my car hits 90 degree's so why not!!

The ecp parts are known to fail, do a search. Stick with the genuine bmw products in this case or it may end up costing you more later to redo.

Are your prices from the dealer without discount?

Most dealers will give you 10% discount.

Those prices for stats from BMW do seem a tad bit high unless they have increased them in the past year. I think I paid £78 for both stats from BMW a year ago - try ringing another dealer for a price

I would personally pay a bit more and get the genuine stats from BMW. I have read stats from ECP are prone to fail (google search). for the time it takes to access the main stat you might as well use genuine as its a couple hours of labour plus coolant to re change

Use genuine bmw coolant as well as it is not suppose to be mixed with other types unless you do a full flush

diy to thermostat change, its for a 330d however it is the same/similar on the 335d - I did mine following this guide and it took me half a day as I was taking it slow - no doubt a garage can do in couple of hours

I bought the more expensive item offered on the carparts4less site and they have been fine - also use the voucher code posted on the homepage to get more off.

This was after buying the one from ecp - and the main one failed. When I removed it 3 months later i found that the rubber internal seal had completely dislocated from its seating area causing the stat to be permanently open.

LCI 330d only has a main thermostat, no EGR thermostat is fitted.

The reason these need replaced is the OEM BMW original has failed?
So Bmw ones are prone to failure too

My ECP one is working grand

Point taken.

It really depends how often you fancy changing the part, ECP ones reportedly fail a lot quicker than the OEM ones.

I got both from ECP and the EGR one was OEM with the BMW ground off due to licensing. The mainstat wasn''t an OEM part, even though it was the more expensive part listed by them. The quality of the plastic wasn't anywhere as nice as the part that came off.

I ran with it as it isn't a massive job to take it all off to change it again should it need changing.
If it fails within a year then it will go back under warranty and I'll source a discounted genuine part instead.

All thermostats fail at some point, its just the nature of how they work. They should ideally be replaced every five years or so.

Don't forget that a BMW item will have a two year warranty with it.

As previous poster has said - BMW parts are prone to failure on numerous fronts. ECP and Carpart4less are the same company. The latter sell at about 30% less than ECP without discount codes. The EGR thermostats are exactly the same whether you buy from BMW, ECP or CP4L. The main thermostat has a number of manufacturer sources. No particular manufacture has a proven record better than the alternatives.

I Changed both of mine on my 330d originally from ECP however after a week or so I was struggling to get up to full temp again. Changed both to Gen BWM 3 month on still ok.

You can tell the main stat from ECP is a lot less quality when you compare it to the BMW.

The EGR valve from euro is probs ok as they looks exactly the same except the ECP stat had the bmw badge rubbed off.

All in all it cost me an extra £30 for gen BMW and IMO worth it
