Adding screenwash concentrate / concentrations
I thought you mix it in a bottle with water and add. The Halfords instructions say add to reservoir and then add water per the ratio required?
I don't understand the all seasons screenwash (pre-mixed). If it's suitable for winter then in summer you are using a much higher concentration than needed - could you add some water to what's left in the summer months to get more for your £? What happens if you have an amount of summer concentration in the reservoir then in winter top if up with a winter concentration - both will mix making the total less than the winter concentration in winter months? Does it matter? Thanks! |

Make two lots of solutions, one weak one for the summer and one strong one for the winter. Start pouring in the winter one, atleast a month before winter starts so that you do not get caught out with frozen windscreen fluid. I usually buy a concentrate and then dilute it according to the instruction on the label. Normally the pure concentrated one is good for under -30deg C. The label will tell you what dilution with water will give you one good for minus 15C or minus 10C etc. Even for the summer use, i do not go under minus 5C dilution.

another vote for BMW's formulation
Personally I would also recommend the BMW washer fluid. a little goes a long way (5:1 dilution) and its very resistant to freezing when temperatures hit -5 or below.
2 winters ago there were cars stopped everywhere because their washer pipes were frozen. My daughter used ready mix and we had to take her car to Audi's hot water car wash to get the lines melted so we could flush and replace the washer fluid In addition it causes no damage to paintwork and does not allow build up of sludge |

Will have to research on BMW's screenwash - thought it would be just marketing hype - Carplan / bluecol / Holts / Prestone in a BMW labelled bottle? How much - from dealer only? I've never experienced sludge issue - had car for years.

Referring to me or others? I'd be more worried about quality of engine oil - screenwash isn't safety critical as along as it doesn't freeze isn't supermarket or those cheaper stores (Home Bargains) stuff fine?
E92Dan, you mix it first or bung in screenwash then water separately? For a 50% each (winter conc.) mix just add 1L screen wash then 1L water or mix together in 2L bottle and add? E90 reservoir about 6L in manual. Last edited by E90F30er; 02-02-2014 at 07:45 AM.. |

Yea sorry I meant I think you're worrying to much about screenwash. Just pour it in, taking note of what the bottle sais and fill with water. simple!
