Ouch!

A momentary distraction, and i reshaped the front end…..
A 25 odd MPH impact, and the car compacted, as it is supposed to do
Hardly felt the impact, was amazed to see the damage!
After exchanging insurance details with the 17 year old driver and staying until her parents arrived (she was in a mild state of shock) I drove the car home, a journey of 2 miles.
But I had to laugh when the "bonnet may be open" dash warning came on, informing me of the possibility of an accident!

Ouchhh! You have my deepest sympathy dude, but as long as nobody was hurt then don't worry about it too much, S**t happens.

Mind sharing what distracted you momentarly?

The wings seem completely unmarked, but the bumper seemed to come upwards slightly so I can't be sure. The rad didn't seem to be leaking, but the plastic grills have been pushed back into it, so its not looking as good as it was!

No one hurt, I felt very sorry for the young lady, she had only passed her test months ago, and was upset by the whole thing. But not hurt. I accepted full responsibility.

Unusually heavy local cos of new roadworks. I saw a gap in standing traffic on the right and spent a second too long looking to see if a car was going to pull out in front of me. It didn't, but the car in front had stopped unexpectedly in front.
I hit the brake hard, but somehow glanced off the side of the pedal so not full braking effect. Im still very angry at myself. Like many on here, I love my car. BUT>>it really IS only metal and rubber.

Reminded me how quickly and easily accidents happen. Just a certain sequence of events.

The bonnet stayed closed, deforming upwards. a lot of metal plastic and foam moved in and back, soaking up the energy of my momentum.
Well done BMW.

Damn that reminds me of my first ever accident at 17.... heading towards a roundabout, looked at the roundabout and it was all clear so accelerated, then looked forward to find the dumb ass in front of me had just stopped for no reason... BANG !. Lesson learnt

Could ask for incremental cost of msport bumper while you're at it? Probably not much in it.

It'll be all the bumper carrier stuff behind the bumper that will shock you.

Has the lady got her insurance involved? When someone knocked into back of my car like yours my insurance company "morethan" handed me over to their agent because I want at fault. My repairs were actually minor but they were clearly trying to take the poor guy who went into me to the cleaners as a profit making measure. £100's per day rental for a E320 merc that was only half that at hertz. In the end I felt obligated to decline their services because it didn't feel right because it would've blown his total claim sky high.

I guess what I am saying is anything you can do to settle with this young lady might help you in the long run. It can still go on your insurance if you choose but keep it low key.

Chris

The bodyshop engineer said its better than it looks - mostly bolt on parts, although plenty of them! But the chassis is untouched, and "has retained its integrity". More than can be said for my driving....
