Performance Version Of The X4 Is In The Queue: X4 M

Quote:
Here is the deal, Mercedes Benz has AMG versions of almost their entire range and they are quiet successful with their strategy. They sell good and more importantly, earn respect. BMW is simply following Mercedes Benz has decided to make M versions of their every car in the entire lineup. X5 M and X6 M were result of that follow up strategy. Now, we recently wrote an article about BMW X4 and the news is that this new X4 will come with an M badge. Yes, X4 M is the future.

The X3-based SUV, which sits too low to offer any off-road practicality and is not exactly a beautiful addition to the lineup, will be officially unveiled later this year at the Beijing Motor Show 2014. Honestly, the X4 is no step ahead, just like BMW 4 series gran coupe it only increases the product portfolio on paper, but doesn’t offer anything substantially new. It would be more sensible to discontinue the current generation X3 and replace it with this upcoming X4. It just seems like BMW is giving the customers many options for the sake of options without serving a new purpose. BMW has made their lineup too complicated to understand in last two years and this will only add in the complications.

Adding to its burgeoning line of models, the X4, essentially a smaller version of the X6 crossover coupe with four doors, should provide a presentable image of the X3. The base model may have a small 2 liter engine options to keep green peace activists happy and the M should come with a 3 liter engine you see in the BMW M3 or M4. The chassis is supposedly tweaked from the X3s and will have M body kit with wide wheel arches. The power is assumed to go to all wheels via an 8 speed ZF gearbox and adaptive air suspension is likely to be added as well. Manual is just pure fantasy. The interior of the car likely to be covered in alcantara and leather with light weight exposed carbon fiber to show off. X4 M will soon be in the market after the X4 base model’s launch.

Except BMW has already said no M versions of This generation X3 and X4 meaning we are at least 4 years away (new x3). I think they want to see how well the X4 sells first.

I doubt it will get quad exhaust as mentioned. This is only for M specific cars. Double single pipes with redesigned skirt would be a better guess.
Looks lower as well.

The tailpipes can be also a trick from bmw to let our imagination work more.
- It may be the new engine 40i being tested, I read that the 35i engines will be soon rebadged 40i.
- It may be the m40i similar to the one that is expected in the upcoming M2
- Or it may be a 35i testing the MPPK, as performance parts should be available from September/October.

But the answer exists, and it should not be too difficult to find it. While I was tracking my car with the VIN code on bmwarchiv.de, I tipped some codes blind, to see the results. I was able to see that for the X4, VIN codes are arranged by engine and by destination (USA/Rest of World). But my biggest surprise was a series of vin codes. If you type 0e87000 you will be surprised to see that this X4 35i has been build on June 3rd 2013!!!! So a pre production car used for final testing before the world premiere of the X4 last march. In conclusion the two x4 above have VIN codes too, and if we find out which one it is, we will know what kind of engine and how much kw it has.
