New Software / Idrive Goes Out

I had the software recall done last Monday. This morning I start the car and the Idrive is black. It flickers on momentarily on the way to the dealer then off again a few times.

The worst part. I shut it down while in line at the service dept. The s/a starts it and the Idrive is working again. She wrote it up to diagnose and noted the key fob didn't show data on the reader.

Any ideas?

Hmmm, sounds familiar. The flicker was probably every thirty seconds, too. Bet it was about ten to fifteen minutes from the time you turned it off to starting it again. Don't worry. It will do it again in a week or two.

Oh goddie!
They are replacing my CCC and re-programing right now. Should have it back in the morning if not tonight.
We'll see if it's really the fix.

Wish they just made idrive with Apple software... would eliminate so many problems.

I-Drive madness update.

To the OP getting his CCC replaced. HOPE it is fixed. I say that because I probably had the worst most comical I-Drive bar none. So after 5 months of trial and error and no fix, BMW decided to replace everything electronic on my car. It used to freeze then emit an ear-spliting shreck even the dealer could not turn off. (Search this forum for details.) So replaced everything including MOST BUS, and yes even the entertainment amplifier, Ipod cable, everything. Dealer said they had bad cases, but mine was just unbelievable.

Anyway drove blissfully for a week, on the new hardware and software, then BAM! "SOS System Malfunction" message shows up, and I loose everything except Navi. So I restart the car, same result, disconnect battery, same thing. So I press SOS just because it says its malfunctioned; Nothing. Hmmm, suppose I was in an accident, or calling for help? Never mind, drove the car to the dealer. I was not even pissed because considering last 5 months of hell, this was a huge improvement. One of the service guys attempts to help, can't really fix it, but says they have had a few in with this, so it shouldn't be neary as bad my prior issue.

Service guy presses SOS, and it suddenly works connecting up to BMW ceter. Service guy explains we have another failed SOS system, and he is just testing at the dealership. So he needs them to read back our location to him.
Guy on the system gives a location I have never heard of in a town 35 miles away! Can you imagine if you had a bad flat or accident and theyu relly on that to find you? What I don't even get is how the system sends totally wrong info even if its malfunctioning. WTF? Anyway, info was relayed to BMW rep, so car will go back into shop next week

Man BMW really knows how to make electronics I have no confidence in any electronic parts in this car. Just horrible. Why sell half-baked technology then look so bad perputually trying to replace A, B, C, D etc just trying to get the package halfway decently functional?
