Winter Windshield Wipers?

So was just out in this storm for 3 hours. Car continues to perform beautifully in the snow as far as stability and sure-footedness. The only problem was with the windshield wipers, which were leaving streaks of road water on the windshield that was then freezing. Conditions were:

18-20 degrees
Moderate to heavy snow
Heavy traffic
10-40 miles per hour possible

When there was no car in front of me, I just ran without the wipers, as usual for the snow.

The problem was when there was a car in front or a truck in the lane next to me or when the speeds were down very low and I needed to clean off the windshield.

So my question is this: do I need to invest in winter wipers? If so, what brand(s) do you recommend.

Thanks!

I have never had issues with wipers in the winter until now too. Today, I had a 90-minute commute in moderate snowfall, and temps between 14-20°F. Wipers were streaking a lot at first, but then slush, snow, and ice started collecting on, and clinging to the wipers. At that point, the wipers were streaking and leaving chunks behind.

I'm kinda a little surprised that the winter package didn't include heating elements for the wiper blades.

Oh, and for the first time, I had issues with my rear window. Slush and snow collected on the rear window during the drive, and I wasn't moving fast enough for them to blow off. So they collected between the heating wires and blocked ~60% of my view. Once I got going tho, the slush and ice blew off almost immediately.
