Newbie with order question

Firstly hi to all on what is a very informative site (albeit dangerous on the wallet) !

I'm currently looking at going for an F31 330D M Sport and in the process of obtaining some PCP quotes (and will try Tony/TRL based on feedback here) but on the one I have rec'd, it includes a £700 delivery charge and wondered if this was "normal". Is that a cost to deliver the car to the dealer they are looking to pass on ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It's normal, part of the OTR price. You generally don't see it as it's absorbed into the OTR price rather than be added as a separate line as BMW seem to do...

Quite normal. Don't worry about it.

Thanks for the prompt replies

There is also an item for £395 described as "protect pack" ? I'll go back to them to clarify but would you guess this was some sort of bumper protection film or something ?

And without me requesting, the dealer has also included a 5 yr 50k mileage service pack at £425. Given I do less than 10k miles per annum and getting a 3yr and 4 yr PCP quote I'm not this this makes economic sense or do people think this is a good deal ?

Cheers again for the help.

Sounds like they're trying to sneak in the service pack and possibly the GAP insurance to get their commission.

If it is GAP, I'm not a fan but lots of people go for it.

The service pack seems to be good value, especially as the service intervals are sooner for 2014 cars. Up to you, just pay as you go or include this in.

p.s. Protect Pack could also be the wax coating thing. Again, I think this is a waste, as I told my dealer (if the engineers in Germany haven't built this thing so it doesn't rust then i'll be knocking on their door).

Tell them to cancel the protect pack, cancel the service pack and cancel the GAP.

They did the same to me.

Try and get them to throw the service pack free of charge and try car2cover for the GAP.

I did get annoyed when I went to pick my car up and had to sit through 20 mins of some dick asking why I hadn't gone for all these extras. In my mind I'm thinking "I'm 44 years old and know what I'm doing, now f&*k off" but I just smiled and looked at my watch.

Hi Alkidrew, I thought the changed service intervals applied to US cars but not EU ?? (My car was built yesterday and is showing on the vin checker as 24 months / 30, 000 km).

I'd say "Protect Pack" is paint protection a nanotechnology or similar liquid that bonds with the paint and rejects water, not a plastic film. At £395 it's more than a separate detailer would charge and it'd potentially be done better. Lots of people go without this though. Or you can DIY as some have done by buying paint sealant from Ultimate Finish or similar. Which is what I did.

Might be wheels though, search the forum for alloy protection if it is, that'll give you loads to read.

I took the service pack at £425 same terms as yours, there is a reference in one or more threads that links to the BMW website that sets it all out. I'm doing about 25,000 miles a year and couldn't be bothered to work out if I'll save money. I just like the thought of (in theory) no garage bills for 2 years.

And yep, £700 for delivery seems universal. It's the shipping from the factory.

I suggest you allocate 3 hours to reading the last 10 pages of threads. I'm serious, you'll learn a lot! e.g. Don't spec Online Entertainment!
