home made vent gauge,nav,music

so fed up with not having sat nav , and being to lazy to plug my phone into the aux every time I decided to have ago at fitting my phone into the drivers vent

if it works I will be running tasker on my phone to do all the tasks I want, like starting music when I star the car and pausing when I turn it off, also satnav torque for my digital gauges ect
I have not much experience in anything like this so fingers crossed it works

is there a method for easy removal of phone, or are you just going to leave that guy in there all the time?

thank you , If it works it will be cheaper than the proper vent gauges and more useful (except for having no vent to drivers window)

or which is way to small

Gonna watch this with interest mate as I use a Samsung Ace to run Torque gauges in my car.At the moment it is just in a holder clipped to a vent so has to be removed every time you stop and park.No point risking smashed windows for an old phone (that was useless from day one in that its got no internal memory)Something like this would make it less obvious.

I considered this but it got a bit too complex trying to figure out how to keep it charged without it draining the car battery.

I was doing it with my Galaxy S2 but if the battery ran out, the power button would be inaccessible with it mounted in the trim like above.

For now I've just got it clipped to the front of the vent and use it for Sat nav and Torque, easier to remove to charge up etc

I am also using Samsung s2 the power button can be reached when the vent cover is removed from the car if needed ,I have done this so it can be tested first b4 its permanently in place, as for charging I am gunna be using tasker to turn everything off when car is not running which should leave enough charge for stand by , then when car is powered back up the cigarette lighter will charge the phone .

Well that's how I hope it works but like I say testing to be done

First I wrapped the cover

then put a bit on phone

then glued phone into cover

now ready for test phase of powering it and making it do what I want when I want, as it stands it powers up when I start the car ,starts playing music and opens sat nav ,when I turn car off it stops everything and turns phone off into standby

Looks quite good. The way you have it set up with Tasked sounds pretty good, might have to try it with mine haha

Love the idea ... BUT

What if the phone freezes?

How do you update it with music? Unless you use spotify and you park close enough to your house to connect to wifi and auto update it that way and have 'offline' playlists... I guess you could use this method to transfer files over wifi too so no need for a cable...

How would you use GPS and Maps as data is required... have you got a sim card in there?
Or maybe you could tether off your existing mobile?

On this point, I know there a few Nav apps that you can use offline, they just fully download all the maps when you first install.

The rest of your questions the OP can answer himself lol

I have been trying to find a match for OEM trim for what seems like eternity! is that your trim, with that exact brand/colour combo?
