My god it drinks...

Washer fluid. I keep having to fill up the car with windscreen washer fluid. Why does the car wash the headlights ever other time you wash the windscreen - this seems excessive to me.

My previous BMWs have all been coupes so no rear wash wipe and of course the touring gets far more grime on the rear window so I need to use the rear wiper quite regularly but I never expected the low washer light to come on so regularly.

And finally, why does the rear wash and headlight wash stop when the low washer light comes on. Seems daft to me!

Anyone else find this frustrating?

Just ordered some of this! haven't even got the car yet

I think it stops to give priority to the front windscreen?

It's actually quite smart and well thought. It reserves the last drops of water for the front windscreen, which essentially safety first

In the other hand when your water is full, it will wash the headlights once if your lights are on. After that it won't wash's them till quite a few cycles of windscreen washing

Ok that is quite clever. It's so dark up here in the NE of Scotland that my headlights are on all the time - both driving to and from work is in the dark at present. That explains why it keeps washing my headlights. Cheers for the heads up MWA

Seems like a good price. Is it cheaper than going to a dealer then? It says suitable for -65oC so I'm assuming it can be diluted slightly?

Hi BMWSKI yes I believe so it says "Effective in undiluted form down to -63°C" not sure on ratio's though. So far this winter we have had 10c nearly every day.. can't remember the last time it was below freezing either!

This is from bmwdirect, not sure of RRP, anyone know?

Thanks. I reckon a cold spell is coming so good to be prepared. All you need now is a car to put it in! Sorry

I get through a lot of screen wash.... tourings and headlight wash are a recipe for consuming the stuff very fast, and I'm not a high mileage driver.

Through coding you can reduce the frequency of the headlight washing, if you so wish.

But won't that defeat the whole reason for headlight washers? When you use the screen washer frequently at night, you want the headlights washed as well. Certainly up here... where you may even find with washing the lights, you still have filth on them and you lose light quality if not washed frequently enough.

Personally I think BMW have got it judged pretty well for night driving.

I think the washer fluid lasts a long time considering other cars I've had. I remember my Focus ST went through washer fluid every 2 weeks or less. It had no control over stopping the headlight washers.

When I use the windscreen washers I'm usually quite careful to give it just a quick prod to get enough on the windscreen to clean it without drenching every other motorist around me. I really do hate it when you're following some dummy in their Vauxhall Zafira and they jettison about 2 litres of washer fluid onto everything in the vicinity!

(That's why I hate the headlight wash on the F30 cos you get this uncontrollable jet of fluid that goes everywhere!).

I think they have judged it well if you're on a longer drive, but if you've gone a few miles to one place, park up and then go somewhere else, then pop in to the petrol station, and then park up in Mcdonalds... etc etc, then what happens is it resets every time you stop the car, so in one day of dull motoring you wash the lights so many times than is ever really needed!

The tourer rear window does get you through a lot as it really does get dirty as well as wet!

1 part screen wash to 3 water, down to -6 I think. I'll have a look tomorrow to confirm. Got mine from the same place last week, arrived in 2 days for 1.99 which is pretty good, plus a card funnel to prevent making a complete mess everywhere!
