Amp suggestions please. 300w x 1 or 2 @ 4 ohms

I used to use an Alpine MRV T505 with 300w x 1 @ 4 ohms but I now need one with balanced differential input. The closest I can get so far is the JL XD which has 200w but that's 100 out... and there is the JL XD 600-1 but thats 300 more than I need..

Thanks

The JL XD 600/1 only does 400 @ 4 Ohms - it's 600 only on a 2 ohm load.

You cannot have too much power. Just as an example - my speakers/power ratings and what they get given (this is for an SQ car, albeit competition use - all numbers RMS).

Sub - Morel Ultimo SC 10 - 600W / gets 1000W
Midbass - Hybrid Audio Legatia L6SE - 170W / gets 550W (each speaker)
Mids - Hybrid Audio - 70W / gets 110W
Tweeters - Pioneer ODR - 50W / gets 110W

You use the gain controls on the amplifiers to reduce the ability of the amp to clip at higher volumes (and if you set them correctly, you'll end up with complete protection against clipping completely so speakers cannot be damaged).

every 10-dB increase in acoustic loudness--from 80 dB (conversation level) to 90 dB (shouting), or 90 dB to 100 dB (very loud) --requires ten times as much electrical power in watts.

So your not-very-efficient subwoofer might be rated at 300W, but turn it right up with not enough power to control the speaker and you get distortion i.e. clipping and damage can be done to the speaker.

The 600/1 is a cracking little amp - I would go with that. And I agree with the above the slash 500/1 is also a corker due to the intelligent power supply circuitry - but it's a much bigger amp (although better overall for SQ).

Don't be worried by "too much power" ! there's no such thing
