F30 Engine built in Britain?

I was just watching a repeat of Top Gear and noticed this claiming the F30 engine is British built.

Does anyone know which engine/s, and where?

I believe 4 cylinder petrol engines are built in BMW Hams Hall which is based in Warwickshire.

It is true, all the 4 cylinder petrol engines and the new 3 cylinder engines are built by brummies many of whom came from Longbridge.

When I was first approached by the BMW salesman last year, I said I was interested in a South African car with a brummie engine and he said "ah you want a 3 series with a petrol engine!".

When I last went into the same showroom 25 years ago the salesmen were such arrogant, self-satisfied pillocks, I promised myself I would never buy a BMW. I was working with Investment Bankers at the time so was well used to dealing with self satisfied pillocks!

How times change.

Someone told me the ZF8 gearbox is made around the corner from me at the ZF plant in Nottingham? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

So is it just the petrol engines that are built in Britain?

So my 328i...

Car built in Regensburg, engine made in UK. Engine goes from UK to Germany, inserted into F30, goes from Germany back to UK. Seems quite inefficient?

Was quite surprised when i read a few months ago in Autoexpress or wherever about the engines.
I thought it was all of them, not just the petrols.

If you ever feel like sampling that sort of attitude again just drop into any Audi showroom. Out of my sample of three sets of w*nkers in three dealers I'd guess they're all like that.

This is it, my local Audi dealership are useless. In 2009, I asked for a test drive of an A4 2.0TFSI after showing strong interest (and it really was a serious contender). They never got back to me. Hello again BMW.

2012, I asked for a test drive of the A6 2.0TDI and/or 3.0TDI - so I wasn't even that picky. Nah, same story. Hello once again BMW. They bent over backwards to get me in an F30 actually and I only had to merely hint at the notion, if that. I had a 320d still in camo and then the Sales Exec's 328i she just brought back over from Portugal after getting it very early!

Also, I looked at a Q5 before pulling the trigger on my 328i and a sales woman who was seemingly dressed in pyjamas and had an unnerving resemblance to Scary Mary from the Phones4U advert went on to make a complete ass of herself and the car when the powered tailgate would not shut past half way. She began shoving it as hard as she could until it made an expensive sounding noise and fell almost shut. I'd just had enough at that point.
