Ecu code help pls?
I installed the Cobb ap2 and so far have been very happy with the results. However, after a bit of a boot yesterday, the engine light came up. I went to my Indy as I was local and it came up with oxygen sensor problems on his machine.
U have plugged my Cobb in and read the codes and it's scared the life out of me. Pages of em although only the top 3 explained what they are. These were the oxygen sensor ones. Some pics..... It's strange because I've had the engine light and limp mode before but it always displays on the main screen. This time the engine light only appears on the dash directly in front of the steering wheel. My Indy says the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced but that are all the other codes? Has the Cobb done this do you think or an existing problem? Help much appreciated. |

First of all, ignore the codes starting with H as they are historic codes. Only the codes starting with P are current.
Tim I can say 100% that an o2 sensor has failed on your car. From the error codes, they all relate to Bank 1 which is the o2 sensor for the front 3 cylinders before your primary cats, so right by the turbo. I would say it has nothing to do with the Cobb, I had a similar issue with my car when I was running a JB4. When you start increasing the power you find the weak links in the car which can't handle it. The sensor is about £100 for a genuine Bosch one which is the same as the BMW ones but is in a different box. It isn't the easiest job as space is limited. Finally, there are different levels of engine management codes. If the error is serious enough it will throw a P3100 fault code which indicates limp mode. This error wouldn't trigger it but looking at the pics you had a h3100 which was limp mode in the past (as you mentioned) HTH mate. Last edited by idnan; 01-11-2014 at 08:09 AM.. |

Yes I have had a few limp modes in the past. Its happened mostly when putting my foot down joining motorways from slip roads. My indy seems to think that the faulty 02 sensor could be the cause of the limp mode. I think he was saying that the car would go in to limp mode as a protection because its sensing the fuelling is incorrect when im putting my foot down. Does that sound right to you? |

I used to have the warning light/ limp mode error when i floored it on the motorway, after 1 hour of driving when the engine was fully warm. I didn't have a code reader at the time...so not sure what codes would have come up... the garage replaced, the injectors and they found excessive carbon built up....
