E92 Sirius Module, Bracket and which connector

While there is a DIY for the E90 version and location of the Sirius module under the trunk pan in the forward part of the trunk, I can't find anything in the search for the E92 driver side side mounted module.

There are 3 separate cables wrapped and ready there, 2 look the same connector wise and the 3rd is the Antenna. Which one is used, and how do you tell, and I obviously have the wrong bracket for the wiring location.

Does anyone have the installation sheet for the E92?
thx.

That's where I started.. Also a US Sirius in a CDN Car.... but my cabling is not where yours is, although the tabs and bolts are... they are on the left rear side, just by the taillight, under the grey door .. so.... ordered the wrong kit as a result. I guess it depends on the date of your build.

Just for info, for the E92 with the cabling under the left rear trap door there, you need:

Bracket PN: 65-11-0-035-509 (expensive)
Trim PN: 51-47-7-122-411 (raises the left side stuff and door accordingly)
Radio PN: 65-20-9-142-850 or 65-12-6-987-545 (E92)

Here's a link for the BMW E92 Sirius Install .. Left rear cable location

Humm......I called the guys at Circle BMW and they told me BMW changed parts a couple of times....

Your car also needs the Satellite pre-install kit.

yes.. it has that. Pretty easy to tell as the cable plugs are there under the trap door wrapped in velcro blankets. The antenna is obvious, and the shorter of the two that are the same is the plug for the radio. The long one is for the CD.

Just to summarize, there are three variants of the module number for the Radio, and they all seem to work. I got one of the original part numbers (Nov 2006 unit), and patched it into the MOST fiber ring, had it programmed under Progman 27.02.

All worked.

For the past few years, they have been promising to get the Satellite option "soon", but it hasn't happened. So, as it stands, if you want integrated SIRIUS in Canada, you have to make it a DIY as BMW won't sell the parts kit, then you have to find dealer willing to play along to get it into the loop. But it all works great if you do.. Apparently, the Canadian Progman is just like the US version, uncut and uncensored for the great white north.

DIY Hint for Canuks: So, for Canadians, Tischer BMW in Maryland will sell you what you need using Canadian dollars, and if you live on the west coast, Brian Jessel will do the programming for you. I believe there is a dealer in Toronto that will do the same.

but i wanted to know, if i install the sat radio(either XM or Sirius) will it configure with the iDrive system or not? in other words, can i change channels with the voice commad and stuff or do i have ot use the actual sat radio reciever?

All Canadian cars should have the sat pre-install kit called SA693 (or something like that)

Once you physically install it, you need to update the car's programming.

It is fully integrated....really sweet.

Like he says.. the Sirius ends up on the same fiber "MOST" loop as everything else, so is fully integrated, just like everything else.. just needs to be recognized by the programming once it's on the loop.

What's the deal with the musical Sirius brackets on the E92? I appear to have the harness for the CD-changer-location Sirius mount, but the other spot next to the TCU is wide open and seems to have all the right mounting bits. Is there something else that's supposed to go in this spot, or do older E92's just get stuck with an empty bay?

Is the left-rear Sirius module installed where HD-Radio/DAB are supposed to go?

For the E92, it's left rear quarter panel (see my post 7 link above..). The CD changer optical plug and the Sirius Antenna/Optical Plug harness are back there. The CD is the longer lonely plug. You have to add the CD bracket then the Sirius bracket on top of that, and change the interior left trunk liner to the "stepped" one. I put the parts list above. Even tho the E92 has the "tabs" under the floor panel, there is no harness ther to hook to.. that's for the E90 setup, which I accidentally bought first.

Hope this helps.

That's not where the Sirius unit is installed....it is in the bottom of the trunk....see the left side (Sirius unit + cooling fan)

Did you get lifetime subscription also with the purchase? Rumor has it if you order Sirius when you order your car you get lifetime subscription included.

Well, according to the PDF above and our other DIY's, Sirius was in the Sirius spot from sedan SOP to 05/06, then it switched to the CD-changer spot until 03/07, then switched back?

What the hell?

The cables I see in my coupe (10/06) line up with LH's observations. T, you have a 2008, which puts you outside the window of weirdness.

Are the cables long enough to peel out of the harness to mount the receiver where it's supposed to live? It'd suck to reduce the trunk volume just to leave a useless space somewhere else.

Can't say about other model years but I bought my part from CircleBMW, they had the kits. The module switched part numbers but then switched back to the original.... I would suggest CircleBMW, they have complete kits that are found by searching your VIN.

I think the parts issue is well understood now; I'm just really curious about why BMW moved this around.
