Visibility Pack
For anybody who is contemplating it go for it. My first country roads- dark driving back home and amazing, the dazzle, dancing lights couldnt believe it. I have been doing the same roads for more than 2 yrs and today was unbelievable.
I absolutely love them, it was exactly as the video. I was very skeptical worried someone would flash but no flashing from opposite direction- so i think it didnt affect anyone. One thing i did notice though was the way it was dancing and wondering if the car in front was annoyed with the lights. Overall- my opinion fantastic. with only one day usage i cant go back to anycar without them now. Well done BMW. |

I never thought an F30 visibility pack would be another reason to love where I live; just 30 minutes from the bright lights and facilities of the second city; just 30 seconds away from dark country lanes. Is it sad that I know that I will be making a night drive on my first day with my new F30 - specifically to test out the 'dancing lights'?

It is a truly awesome piece of kit!
I can only guess how fabulous the adaptive is with LED headlamps.. I understand they can be directed and controlled even quicker and more precisely. When I drive the Z4 with normal xenons, after getting used to the F31 adaptive lights it seems like half as much can be seen... I can't imagine driving with crappy halogens. Totally spoiled! |

I have heard a report, just one mind, that other road users have flashed their lights as if warning that they are being blinded by full beam from the F30. The F30 driver did say he could see that the other cars were NOT being hit with full-beam. Could it be they most likely thought they were being blinded because of their immediate surroundings being fully lit by the F30's adaptive full beam?

In just two weeks I've had a couple of situations where I've turned them off as I do think they were affecting others though, so it's by no means totally perfect. |

I have come across this problem before with the full beam not dipping quick enough. Although it was one a motoway, at least i think it was me blinding the other driver
Not yet come across this minor or possibly major trouble on any country roads, as i usually dip the lights anyway just incase. |

The system is not foolproof, there are occasions when other drivers will be blinded. The main one is when coming over a crest or round a corner. The high beam assist will react to lights ahead of it and cannot predict a car ahead as the light from the other vehicle is not bright enough until the lights can actually be 'seen'. This in my view is the single biggest flaw of the lights and quite possibly the hardest to rectify.
Interestingly one of occasions where the high beam assist works very well is in thick fog where it is very good at ensuring you have the most road viable ahead of you while not over exposing you to the glare from the fog. |

I've been flashed so many times I've lost count. Every time it happens I clean my windscreen and it doesn't happen again for the rest of the journey.
It's probably just me but crud on the windscreen surely can't help the camera recognise head or tail lights? Hats off to the system though - dancing headlights are superb, particularly the "black hole" and left-right sweep back to full-beam.

I need to see what happens over the next few days/weeks and see if I get flashed, i agree about the curves and i feel i may be blinding the driver from the other side but just in time it turns off. i love the way it dances from right left and the illumination on left is amazing

It didn't stop me from using my high-beam assist - what's half a second of blindness between fellow road users?

I've been flashed using these high beam assist lights, and I'm glad I'm not the only one! Seems a few people have had this issue.
Another scenario where they cannot work properly is when there is a vehicle waiting to pull out from a side road..... So you are travelling down a road in the dark with your full beam on. Guy in the side road is waiting for you to pass by so he can pull out but because his vehicle is 90 degress to yours, the camera/sensor in your car cannot detect his front or rear lights so does not turn your full beam off.
