Park assist on xdrive

I read somewhere that park assist is not available with f30 xdrive. Not that it's a big deal as I can park a car… however on the parking package it says it is available.

Can the owners of f30 xdrives confirm or deny this please!

'I think' made me chuckle!

Yes pjs has it on his car and there is no issue with ordering park assist on a 330dX or any other 3 series, as far as I know.

I ordered it, almost by default. I had read on this very forum that surround view was great at avoiding damaged alloys. Surround view needs the reversing camera to be specced. As the reversing camera is included in the park assist pack, for around £200 extra I ordered the park assist instead.

I definitely have park assist, it's xdrive I can't prove (except maybe the higher wheel gap)

Out of interest…

How 'well' does the car park itself?

Surround view unfortunately isn't included in the parking package, and seems a costly extra.

No but the parking pack has the reversing camera which is required for surround view. After discount the option was close to £400 but that was only because I wanted folding mirrors. A bit pricey but I decided it was one of the cool gadget options I would get some use out of.

I believe the car parks well provided the car either side of it are parked okay-ish. I think it uses the position of both cars to aline itself so if one or both cars are parked up on the kerb, for example, you will end up on the kerb. Should be fine for 98% of parallel parking situations, although I will be viewing it's progress with SV, just in case.

When I tried it on a demo car I just felt that it would be quicker and easier to park it myself. I don't need to parallel park all that often so left it out. I agree that surround view looks more useful, and it annoyed me that the reversing camera wasn't part of the cost. In the end we ordered the reverse camera only.

Do people really use it much?

I use it.

It's grand, but you need to use it in order to accept it works however you must always remember it is just a tool so you need to keep checking your mirrors.

Definitely a good piece of kit once you become accustom to it.

Completely agree with the comments. I've used it a few times but you do need to be brave and it completely depends on the cars you are parking between. Don't bother if they aren't parked well or are on the pavement.
It's really cool to show off as well!

Don't use the park assist but the reversing camera is excellent so an option well worth ticking.

Same here, I got the Reversing Camera on mine and it's bloody marvelous, especially with the green grid that shows you where your wheels will go and the red lines to show maximum attack. Good bit of fairly simple tech. Tick it!

Despite ordering all of it, I agree that in order of importance and use:

Reversing camera>surround view>park assist.

Until a couple of weeks ago, I've only used park assist as a toy to show my mates and the children. And then I needed to parallel park between tightly spaced cars on a dark, wet, dirty evening - I couldn't see properly through the wet tinted windows and the mirrors were wet. The surround view wasn't brilliant as the cameras were wet and dirty. The park assist placed the car a perfect 6" from the kerb. Well impressed....

I need to parallel 80% of nights at my home. Parked it myself first night and through paranoia about my new wheels, I ended up 1ft away from the curb....come back out put it on park assist...perfect. Always use it now..unless some k#b is up my rse (which Park Assist doesn't like at all).

Glad I got it.
