Europlates?

Hopefully this will be a nice easy thread and surely one that can stay away from breaking out in to pro-nav, s/xdrive and engine fuel type arguements.

Any opinions on whether to ask for Euro style plates or plain plates?

I'm aesthetically drawn towards plain plates but is there any advantage to showing the Euro style plates?

Prefer look of Euro and handy if you drive abroad - I can't stand magnetic or stick-on GB stickers as well

Euro plates if you go abroad with your car make sense. Saves you having to faff around with a separate GB plate.

I have my Scottish plates on the front and Euro GB plate on the back!

A nice thread.
Euro Plates 100%.
Unfortunately, I've got the plain ones.

I think I still prefer the more balanced look of plain plates.

I didn't know a GB sticker had to be displayed outside the UK if the car hasn't got Euro plates. Although I really can't see me taking my car abroad as I usually fly or use my free European rail travel.

Is anyone willing to tell me plain plates will reduce resale value?

Yes, the Euro plates add £16.95 on the GFV of the car!

I have both, for both cars....

Prefer the look of plain 'plates but need the GB for Euro trips. My dealer suggested the plain look better and made be a set of each.

...another example of a dealer that will go the extra mile. They clean my car too.

Seems to me the dealer is either anal or pandering - for me, it's a set of plates and far too much aggro to swap plates over based on where I am going on any given trip. We're all different though, so as they say, ETTO.

PROFESSIONAL NAVIGATION, XENONS, PETROL, STRAIGHT 6, 6MT.

THE REST CAN ALL FUCK OFF.

Sorry, I had to make this thread authentic to the General F30 Section of Americans just wildly trolling one another about what, in their humble opinion, is the only way to drive a BMW! Bore off.

I have Euro plates and like them - I wouldn't want to be sticking a GB sticker all over my car, especially when it's dirty which it inevitably will be if it's 250mls just to get to the tunnel, never mind France! My work requires me to take my car over there half a dozen times a year. Didn't even have to bother asking my dealership.

It's not the service guys - I may have an issue there - it's the PDI and forecourt prep guys (they are two different sites at my dealership) and they do a stirling job.

I don't get swirls, never been an issue for me on any of the 8 black cars I've had!

Re. the plates, maybe I'm anal - I go to Europe infrequently and don't want the 'blue' plates on for the majority of the time. Agro to change? 2 screws each? Hardly.

Go for the euro plates if you intend to go abroad with the car. I had a small magnetic GB plate last summer, I would have changed the number plates if I didn't know a car change was on the horizon.

Also, if you've specified the Blue M Sport brakes they will tie in the colour scheme...

So all vehicle plates look the same and uniform and we are part of the EU after all and a number of GB cars go to the continent.

I think clean plates (with no dealer logo as well) look far better and less cluttered.

My T350 came with Euro Plates and they were gone before I got home!

Indeed.

I visit Europe every year and often drive but never my own car, i.e. I let a plane or train do the hard work and then hire a run around (Portugal, Greek islands etc.). I'm also a big fan of European city breaks, but they are best without a car and with a drink!

As I prefer the more balanced look of plain plates and I am extremely unlikely to drive to France etc., I'll go with plain plates. Thanks for your responses.

One thing that has surprised me during my drives around the Midlands and the North West this week - most cars, even the newer ones, are on plain plates.

I don't think geography works like that!

Anyway, your opinion is as valid as anyone else's.
