Mud Flaps - Yes they DO fit an M-Sport

I know opinions are very divided as to whether mud flaps are quite the thing on an M-Sport but, hey, it's my car & I like them!

Anyways, even tho' my dealer said they wouldn't fit and opinions around the web seemed to vary I opted to take a chance and buy some.

I am pleased to report that both front & rears fit perfectly and I didn't even need to remove the wheels! - Full lock for front wheels gave enough access & with rears I had just sufficient room to remove/refit the pre-existing 3 bolts (not screws) using an 8mm socket on a small ratchet.

Fitting was easy on the rears; fronts need a bit of pressure to make the holes line up but still only took 20 minutes a side.

my car is an F31 by the way but I can't see any reason why the saloon should be any different.

So for any of you who perhaps fancied mud flaps but thought they wouldn't fit I can assure you they do!

Very practical I'm sure and no doubt good for the 70's rally car look!

Are you saying you like the look, or like the fact your car stays cleaner? (I assume you fitted them for a purpose?)

OK some piccies... best I can do!

not a lot of room in the garage, but 3 photo's I've just taken......

f.y.i. the car is Moonstone and the black against that colour looks fine to me.

Really the aim is to keep the car cleaner, but only time will tell if they actually achieve that, of course!

If the car was bright orange I confess I might have worried it would look like an old Escort Mexico, but as it is it worksd for me! - I don't think I'll add any fluffy dice to the car, though, http://www.f30post.com/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif

I think I'd prefer them colour-coded to the car, or perhaps in black with the M Performance bodykit too.

I'm not keen either sorry, i just don't understand the logic behind preventing your car from look bad by adding something to it that makes it look bad!

Like these strips that some people stick to their bumper in case of the very small chance that the bumper gets scratched and looks bad, they stick something to it that makes it instantly look permanently bad!?

Why would BMW say it doesn't fit an M-sport if it actually does?

Each to their own. Not my cup of tea. Only car I've ever had that looks right with mudflaps is my old Defender.

This has got to be my favourite for candidate for protecting the car so it looks nice.... ah yes, the bonnet bra

It's kind of like people buying a shiny new phone and partially justifying it over a cheaper model based on the superb quality, look and feel of the polished aluminium/glass case. Then keep it permanently in an ugly £10 plastic cover to protect it.

Mmmmm, perhaps the "right to be forgotten" is valid !! ... threads that come back to haunt .... The number of slag-off comments to a post I put up to help other people who just might want to fit mud-flaps to their car amazed me!

Why do BMW say they dont fit, Polo? - Pure incompetence probably... Their instructions want you to fit the rear flaps in front of the rear wheels, if you look at their instructions!

Bigamos - "sticky tape to leading edge" query... Dunno what you mean. There is some sticky tape at various points around each mudflap, I think it's intended to make sure there is a close-up, tight fit to all visible bodywork.

Having had them fitted for some months now I can report that they do reduce the amount of muck thrown onto the bodywork by the front wheels and the rear of the car has a lot less dried on spray on the rear glass etc. They aren't very large but they are effective.

i.e. I still like them, they are effective, I don't feel the need to have them the same colour as the bodywork, & it's my car so if any(every)one else hates them then I will have to find the courage to live with the shame of being a petrol-engined mud-flap carrying hearse-driver. (albeit an effing fast car, for all that)

Post a photo in the AW F31 area when you do... interested to see them on a nice white wagon. Thanks.

This - I've been running Alloygators on my car to protect the rims from unsightly kerbing. Problem is, the gators themselves look unsightly so I removed them after cleaning the car one weekend and thinking "those things looking f**king gash".

Alloy gators are only good for one thing... Learner cars. Even then, the cars are so shit, it's probably cheaper to buy new wheels.
