E90 Vacuum pump undwer warranty?

Hi, been told that I need the vacuum pump replacing as its leaking oil. I have the extended warranty on a 2007 E90 1.8i. Was first told that it was the rocker cover but after having a look been told by the dealers that its the vacuum pump. Been told its not covered under the warranty. Had a look in the book and it shows as being covered. How can it be wear and tear, when the part as failed resulting in oil leaking.
Thanks for any help.

Vaccum pump failure is common on 318i and 320i. There is a very good thread how to rebuild it yourself and its way better than BMW OEM vaccum pump.

If your vaccum pump is failing then your CCV might be blocked.

Worth of reading this thread which covers most of 318/320i problems.

And yes, its not wear and tear part. It is a mechanical part which has failed.

It's the N46 B20 engine for 318i/320i

I had rocker cover, vacuum pump and sump pan gasket to replace!

Just a word of warning about rebuilding it; this only replaces the seals that separate the two parts of the pump and the one between the pump and engine. There may be a seal next to the pump bearing as well to stop oil getting in to the pump and this may actually be the root cause.
