Thinking of a change

Hi all,

I am contemplating on changing my e92 325 and seriously considering an Audi a5 3.0 tdi or even stretch to a s5. The Quattro is decent to have and you tend to get more gizmos for your money than the BMW. I also considered a 335d but the BMW turbos don't give me much confidence.
Still not decided, any thoughts?

Thanks

I'd drive some first and to be honest if your thinking about a S5 then you ought to be looking at a M3...

Steering on Audi's is numb and over assisted but that's my opinion. The 3.0TDi engines are thirsty too compared to BMW counter parts and have higher emissions.

A good friend his selling is a5 3.0tdi Quattro sline

I have driven thus myself and it's a great car, lovely!

My personal opinion is that the s5 would be wasted money as it isn't hugely faster than the 3.0tdi but a lot more to run! A remapped 3.0tdi would be beautiful!

This is why he chose against an s5!

Only thing that disappointed me was the dash board! Compared to a bmw interior it feels cheap!

I've been contemplating a change for the last few months, I've had my 330d for 19 months now which is the longest I've kept a car in quite a while. I've been casting admiring looks at an Audi s3, I don't need a diesel anymore, I'm not doing the miles and don't want DPF problems. I keep changing my mind about getting rid of my 330d but I'm going to look at an S3 and see how I feel about it then.

A friend has an Audi A5 3.0tdi and it's not as good an engine as the BMW 3.0tdi, but the s5 looks a great car,

I had 5 Audi's in a row and was a big fan.
The main reason I swapped to BMW is simply because there was no newish Audi that seemed worth going for.
I've slipped and slid around a few times in my 330d and have missed the quattro (lowercase q if you plan on going on Audi forums! )then, and no doubt will really miss it in the snow, but apart from that I certainly don't miss the less direct steering!

Thanks for the input guys. The s5 seems more value for money over the m3 with a better mpg too (less Bhp mind u) but the a5 3tdi is tunable and with better reliability than the bmw

A5/S5 is due to be changed soon. Although some great new car discounts (around £8-10K off S5) currently. I do find the nav screen and system in the A5/S5 range VERY small and dated now though...

The S5 is not in the same league as the M3.

The 335i and the S5 are on betterl terms. The 335i will beat a V8 S5 around the track and is more fun.

Audi finished 2nd bottom of Warranry directs reliability survey on engines. Only Rover were worse.

I'd take a 370z over an S5 if you can live without the rear seats.

Id get the thought of them being more reliable straight out of your head
Some of the V8's have big problems with coking up and certain ones have very expensive timing chain failures

The 3.0t (supercharged) S5 is a weapon with a tune - circa 410bhp. Chris Harris made a video of his S4 eating up an RS4.

But for the money for a 2 year old S5 I'd have a brand new M135i!
