I'm happy with the standard gear selector knob. No plans to change it or anything else at this time.

Agreed...stock is too light, and too tall in my opinion. Just bought an MSport knob (just the knob, not short shift kit) as my wife's present to me

She thinks I'm nuts....$100 for what ??!! Those that don't drive it, don't get it...

Stock knob is growing on me ... had plans of swapping it for an e46 m3 knob but now I'm not so sure I'm going to go through the trouble.

Of the two choices, I'd probably go UUC. But I'm always afraid of metal knobs that can get slick and cause me to miss a shift. I'm partial to leather knobs.

HELP?!
I am currently using a BMW E46 leather covered M knob. I also have a Whalen Shift Machine that I was using on my previous car, an E46. How things look and feel have something to do with personal preference but I like the looks of the Whalen, especially in a black interior, and I really like it's spherical shape but it is maybe a bit too short. I was looking at a Titanium Cavallino shift knob on their website and it just might be the best for looks and feel but I have not tried one. Others may look okay but I don't like the way most of them attach to the shift lever. I hear that set screws have a way of loosening and coming out.

Metal Shift Knobs

I don't like metal shift knobs, they feel cold or hot depending on weather.

OK. I picked up the new MSport Shifter and the friendly people at the BMW Dealership were kind enough to install it for me. Total time required was about 20 seconds. Simply dropped it into 2nd, and gave 'er a two handed pull. Popped on the MSport and shook my hand. End of job.

A bit about the shifter. This little sucker is heavy. When I opened the box from the parts counter, I felt it. Now I understand why I dropped $100 Cdn. Its real leather, and I knew I liked it right away.

Its hard to explain, but the shifting is now much more precise. Bang-bang from 1st to 2nd. You feel much more connected to the car. Feels good in palm, and cold mornings will be much more tolerable.

If you are looking at spending ~$100, I highly recommend this. Forget the after market wanna be's. Get the MSport...you feel it everytime you are in the car. Pics attached.

Nice...

The only thing is that I dislike having an M badge on anything that is not an actual M car.
