335i M Sport Owners: Have You Experienced “Limp Mode" Defect?
I am trying to justify stepping up my 328 M Sport build to a 335, but BMW’s apparent inability to resolve the “limp mode” issue is keeping me from getting there. I’m looking to get a better idea of how prevelant the issue is.
Would 335 M Sport owners (only) please respond to the poll by answering if you have experienced the Limp Mode defect on your car? Last edited by Dog Face Pony Soldier; 12-27-2013 at 10:44 AM.. |

15k miles with no issues.
Treat it nicely when you get it and follow the BMW break-in period, other than that, will be BMW's fault. 335 is a different animal much more fun.

My car had 60 miles of probably test drives when I picked her up so safe to say she was abused those 60 miles. I have had her since and going on 12000 miles of no limp mode. I don't baby my cars

"BMW's inability to resolve the 'limp mode defect'"? "Limp mode" is not a defect, it's what the ECU does when it senses something is wrong that could harm the engine. When a car goes into "limp mode", the ECU error codes are stored, then read by the dealership and the root cause is determined. It's definitely not something that's endemic to the F30 335i M-Sport.
I had an aux cooling fan fail (known problem caused by defective part from supplier), but no "limp mode" occurred, just a few warnings on iDrive. After the fan was replaced, no further problems. Once the fan problem was discovered, BMW replaced the part in production and that issue was resolved.

I got limp mode last week for the first time at 9K miles, just got my car back from BMW "no issues found" other than a "drivetrain malfunction" message on the computer

Root cause was never determined and it is endemic to 335i M Sport since we have not seen any other trims had similar problem. |

I notice the new car comes up to operating temperature much better and faster. Limpy hit me with low oil temps despite warm ambient air and many miles driven.

13 335Ix M sport had it since july...not sure build date I will go check, but had limp at 2,000 miles first one with no lights at all just very loud fan noise and couldnt rev past like 2,500 rpm and stayed in 2nd gear. Then again at 4,000 same thing no lights just loud fan and stuck in 2nd gear. Also when you press gas all the way down it does nothing at all. Shut the car let it sit for a min abd its back to normal. At 5,500 miles hasn't happened again(knock on wood) other then that, car is a blast to drive.

Hey everyone, can you post your part numbers? I want to know if this is fixed. I heard the fan or relay was updated/re-designed.
i.e. post Fan Part Number: Relay Part Number: Fixed/Not Fixed:
