I'm getting scared

In the past 2 weeks my car has over heated at least twice. Maybe going on for the third time.

First time it over heated I found out I was low on coolant.
Second time, which was about 3 days later, it over heated again, but I was pretty much full on coolant.

Here and there I do here my fan running a bit loud, but not as much (I really need to listen to it).

I started reading other forums and they suggests that I can blow the engine?

I am taking in my car for a check up this Tuesday.

Here is my question to you, if my car has over heated, is it safe to keep on driving it?

Thanks

Danger Will Robinson! DO NOT under ANY circumstances drive your car while it is overheating. Blown headgaskets and warped heads ahoy.

Your water pump is dead. Replace it and the thermostat. If you did a lot of driving with it overheating then I would also have someone do a compression test.

My favorite thing is owners who assume a water pump failure is something that only happens to other e9X owners.

It's my time to cross that bridge already.
I do have 93k on it. It's been nothing but sweet to me until now.

And I felt bad about the 15 seconds it took for me to pull off the freeway, turn off the car and call AAA.

If your care overheats and goes to limp mode, let it roll to a stop.
-Your waterpump may be going out or is out
-Wrong kind of fluid in radiator or theres just water in there
-Could be other things too
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO YOU CONTINUE DRIVING YOUR CAR IF IT KEEPS OVERHEATING!

mine overheats every couple days, honestly i just shut it off and restart it once i see the yellow temp symbol. For whatever reason that gets the pump going again, must be something electronic. I've got to the point now where I just shut it off and restart it while I'm still cruising down the highway, then baam, temps drop.

Wow, that's bravery. I seriously doubt that the rapid temp fluctuations are good on your engine, but it is your car. Just don't say you haven't been warned if something goes south.

it sounds crazy but if i hold down start till the engine dies (while in neutral), then immediately restart (while still moving), the water pump kicks in again and i'm good for the rest of the trip, the yellow temp icon is instantly gone and it never even makes it into the red temp icon or reduced power mode. I used to pull over and let it cool down and then restart, then i realized that just doing a restart gets it going again.

As far as the temp changes being harmful, I've watched it in the hidden menu while driving, it climbs fast when it goes out, quickly triggering the yellow temp icon, then after my restart it cools just as quick back to the 98-103 temp range. all of this within about 20 seconds.

It's been doing this off and on since about 120,000 miles. I'm at 183,000 now.

Sounds like a thermostat problem.

Don't be scared man, it's just a water pump, but just so you know, drive it before repair and you risk the engine doing this:
Excessive heat is the harbinger to all mechanicals!

What are the steps for the temp gauge hidden menu? I keep forgetting if I play with the stock and hold it somewhere for a few seconds or the odometer reset on the dash.
